Faieta Named Spalding NE-10 Player of the Week

Lynn, Mass., native earns weekly award for first time in her career

EASTON, Mass. (January 13, 2014) – Stonehill College junior forward Tori Faieta (Lynn, Mass./Saint Mary's) has been named the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball by the league office this afternoon.

Faieta earns Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career after leading Stonehill to a 2-0 week and is the second Skyhawk to receive the award this season, joining senior guard Mary Louise Dixon (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) who earned the distinction for the third time in her career on December 9. Faieta averaged 22.5 points, eight rebounds, 1.5 assists and a blocked shot in 27.5 minutes per game for the week. She shot 64.5-percent (20-for-31) from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range, while converting 2-of-3 free-throw attempts over the two games.

Faieta scored a career-high 25 points in Wednesday's 104-92 victory at No. 13 Adelphi University on 10-of-15 shooting, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, with a team-high eight rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. She followed that up with another 20 points on 10-of-16 shooting with eight rebounds, an assist and blocked shot in Saturday's 76-68 home win over Pace University.

Faieta has started all 13 games for Stonehill this season and is third on the team in scoring with 14.2 points per game (14th NE-10), shooting a team-high 55-percent (77-for-140) from the field (5th), to go with a team-high seven rebounds (13th), 1.4 assists and a team-best 1.2 blocked shots (3rd) per game. Her 5.9 field goals per game lead the Skyhawks and ranks eighth among NE-10 leaders. Faieta's three double-doubles this season lead the team and she has notched ten double-doubles over her career. She has reached double-figures in scoring in all but three games this season and pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds in an 86-74 win over Merrimack College on November 20.

Faieta, a second team All-Northeast-10 pick as a sophomore, has started 60 of the 69 games she has played over her three year career at Stonehill. She has scored 766 points, shooting 50-percent from the field, to go with 447 rebounds, 117 assists and 107 blocked shots. Faieta's career field goal percentage and career blocks total are both good for fourth in program history. She earned NE-10 All-Rookie Team status as a freshman, collecting NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors once on January 30, 2012, and has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll two semesters for having a semester grade point average over 3.00.

Stonehill (9-4, 6-3 NE-10), among teams receiving votes in the most recent USA TODAY Sports Division II poll, is back in action tomorrow night when it hosts American International College for a Northeast-10 matchup in Merkert Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
