Dixon and Pelletier named to All-Tournament team for Skyhawks
WORCESTER, Mass. (November 17, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked 7th in the USA TODAY Sports Division II preseason coaches' poll, shot over 56-percent and scored over 90 points for the second-straight day in rolling to a 93-53 victory over Caldwell College in non-conference women's basketball action on day two of the Assumption College Tip-Off Classic at Laska Gymnasium this afternoon.
Five Stonehill players scored in double-figures led by a career-high 22 points from sophomore Shannon Brown (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial) in 25 minutes off the bench as she made 8-of-11 shots from the field, including her lone three point attempt, while converting 5-of-6 free-throws to go with a career-high seven rebounds and four assists. Senior Mary Louise Dixon (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) added a season-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 2-for-5 from three-point range, converting all four free throws to go with a season-best eight rebounds, seven assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Junior Tori Faieta (Lynn, Mass./Saint Mary's) notched her second-straight double-double with 17 points and a season-high matching ten rebounds, shooting 7-for-11 from the field and 3-for-3 from the line, with two assists. Classmate Amy Pelletier (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) contributed 11 points, three assists and three steals and was named to the All-Tournament team along with Dixon. Junior Ashley Gendron (Auburn, N.H./Manchester Memorial) chipped in a season-high matching ten points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, with seven rebounds and two assists.

Stonehill finished shooting 56.2-percent (36-for-64) from the field and 92.3% (12-for-13) from the free-throw line. The Skyhawks dominated the glass with a 47-19 rebounding advantage, including 17-12 on their own offensive end, and outscored Caldwell 25-15 in points off turnovers and 24-8 in second chance points. Caldwell was limited to 38.6-percent (22-for-57) shooting, including 1-for-11 (9.1%) from three-point range.
Junior Emily Caswell (Wakefield, R.I./Prout School) led three Caldwell players in double figures with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, going 1-for-2 from beyond the arc, with four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Freshman Alyssa James (Rosedale, N.Y./St. Mary's) added 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, converting both free-throw attempts, with six rebounds and two steals. Senior Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, Mass./Lynn English) chipped in 13 points, four rebounds and a steal for the Cougars.
Holding a 9-6 lead after a Caswell layup 3:20 into the game, Stonehill used an 11-3 run over the next four minutes to open an 11 point (20-9) lead after a jumper by freshman Kelly Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) with 12:31 to play in the half. A Martin three pointer pushed the lead to 17 (34-17) with 4:40 left before halftime and then the Skyhawks closed the half out with a 13-4 spurt to carry a 22 point lead (47-25) into the intermission, with Dixon scoring seven points during that stretch.
Caldwell drew within 18 after a James jumper 2:18 into the second half, but would get no closer the rest of the way. A Pelletier three-pointer put the Stonehill lead back to 23 (54-31) with 15:38 on the clock. The Skyhawks ran their lead to 31 (78-47) on a Faieta layup with 5:33 remaining and then hit 40 (89-49) on a pair of Brown free-throws with 2:32 left as they won going away.
Stonehill (3-1, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it opens its home schedule against Merrimack College for its Northeast-10 Conference opener at Merkert Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. Caldwell (0-3, 0-0 CACC) hosts Felician College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
