Dixon Named NE-10 Player of the Week Again

Wellesley, Mass., native earns honor for second-straight week

EASTON, Mass. (February 25, 2013) – Stonehill College junior guard Mary Louise Dixon (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second-straight week by the league office this afternoon.

Dixon's back-to-back Player of the Week honors are the first two if her career after she led Stonehill to a 2-0 week, including a 73-66 triumph over No. 1-ranked Bentley University on Saturday, by averaging 19 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.5 steals and a blocked shot in 32 minutes per game. She shot 54.2-percent (13-for-24) from the field, including 4-for-6 (66.7%) from three-point range, and 8-for-11 (72.7%) from the free-throw line for the week. Dixon posted 16 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals in the win over Bentley after leading five Skyhawks in double-figures in Wednesday's 90-65 win over Southern New Hampshire University with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting, eight assists and three rebounds.

Dixon is averaging a team-high 13.8 points per game this season (11th NE-10), adding 6.6 rebounds (18th), a team-best six assists (2nd NE-10 and nationally) and 1.3 steals in 32.8 minutes (15th) per game in 25 starts. She is shooting 44.4-percent (99-for-223) from the field and a Conference-leading 85.9% (122-for-142) from the free-throw line (25th nationally) for the year. She has posted three double-doubles, including the third triple-double in program history in a 103-93 win over UMass Lowell on February 13, and has led Stonehill in scoring ten times. Her free-throw percentage currently ranks seventh on the program's single-season list, while her assist average is sixth highest all-time at Stonehill.

Dixon, a third team All-Northeast-10 Conference selection as a sophomore, enters this week's games 67 points shy of becoming the latest 1,000-point scorer in program history. She has totaled 933 points, 422 rebounds, 375 assists and 136 steals in 90 career games played. Dixon ranks third in program history with her .851 career free-throw percentage, while ranking 11th in assists and her 32.9 career minutes per game average is best in program history. An NE-10 All-Rookie team selection as a freshman, Dixon's .888 (87-for-98) free-throw percentage as a junior ranked third in the NE-10 and is the third-highest single-season average in program history.

Dixon has earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll three semesters at Stonehill, as well as Athletic Director's Honor Roll once.

Stonehill (22-3, 18-3 NE-10), ranked 14th in last week's USA TODAY Sports/Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll, closes out the regular season tomorrow night when it visits Saint Anselm College for a Northeast-10 matchup at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks, ranked second in the first NCAA Division II East Regional rankings released last week, will open postseason play on Sunday, March 3, when they host an NE-10 Quarterfinal against the winner of Friday's first round matchup between the No. 7 and 10 seeds at Merkert Gymnasium at 3 p.m.
