Dodoo's career-best 22 points leads Skyhawks to second-straight win

Senior Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass./Burncoat) led Stonehill with a career-high 22 points as she made 8-of-10 shots from the field, including 2-for-3 from three-point range, and converted all four free-throw attempts, to go with a team-high eight rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot over 28 minutes. She paced a Stonehill offense that shot 50-percent (33-for-66) from the field, including 54.1-percent (20-37) in the first half to open an 18 point (46-28) halftime lead it wouldn't relinquish.

Freshman Amy Pelletier (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) added 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including 3-for-8 from beyond the arc, and three assists, while sophomore Mary Louise Dixon (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) contributed 12 points, eight assists (just one turnover), four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Asia Ewing (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Skyhawks with ten points, six rebounds, five assists and a steal, while sophomore Morghan Farnsworth (Cornish, N.H./Windsor (Vt.)) chipped in a season-high nine points and three boards.

Stonehill finished shooting 40-percent (6-for-15) from three-point range after hitting 4-of-8 (50%) in the opening half. The Skyhawks also committed just seven turnovers, while dishing assists on 23 of their 33 field goals on the night. New Haven shot 40.3-percent (25-for-62) from the field, including 35.4% (12-33) in the opening half, and connected on 8-of-25 (32%) three-pointers. The Chargers held a 39-35 rebounding edge, but turned the ball over 19 times while collecting assists on only five of 25 field goals.

Sophomore Anh-Dao Tran (Webster, Mass./Holy Name) led New Haven with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal. Freshman Bria Moore (West Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Center) posted a double-double of 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds (seven offensive) with a blocked shot before fouling out. Freshman Elizabeth Cruso (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) chipped in with 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range, converting all four free-throw attempts.

Stonehill used a 17-3 run to turn an early three point deficit (13-10) after a Tran three-pointer into its first double-figure lead (27-16) on a jumper by Pelletier with 7:27 remaining in the first half. Farnsworth sparked the run with seven points, while freshman Tori Faieta (Lynn, Mass./Saint Mary's) chipped in four. The Skyhawks pushed the lead to 14 (38-24) when Dodoo followed up a Pelletier three with a layup with 3:27 remaining. Dodoo sent the hosts into the lockerroom with an 18 point advantage (46-28) with a three-pointer with 29-seconds left.

Dixon scored a basket to quickly put Stonehill up 20 (48-28) on its first possession of the second half. New Haven trimmed the lead to 12 (58-46) with a three by Cruso with 11:44 remaining, but the Skyhawks used an 18-6 run over the next five minutes to open a game-high 24 point lead (76-52) on a Pelletier three with 6:38 that sealed the victory. The Chargers closed within 15 (80-65) on another Cruso three-ball, but could get no closer as Stonehill would hold UNH without a field goal over the final 3:10 to win going away.

Stonehill (7-5, 3-5 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits The College of Saint Rose for a Northeast-10 clash at 1:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, January 14, to host Le Moyne College at 1:30 p.m. New Haven (2-10, 2-6 NE-10) hosts Merrimack College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
