Dixon Earns First NE-10 Rookie of the Week Award

Wellesley, Mass., native honored after strong week for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (January 17, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman guard Mary Louise Dixon (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Rookie of the Week for women's basketball by the league office this afternoon.

Dixon, who earns the weekly honor for the first time, helped Stonehill to a split of two games last week as she averaged 12 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and three steals. She made 3-of-6 three pointers and converted 7-of-9 free throw attempts (77.8-percent) for the week. Dixon opened the week by finishing just an assist shy of a triple double as she notched her first career double-double with season-highs of 15 points, ten rebounds and nine assists to go with two steals in Wednesday's 74-65 setback to Assumption College. She made 5-of-8 shots from the field, including 2-for-4 from three point range, while converting 3-of-5 free-throw attempts. Dixon rounded out the week with nine points, draining all four free-throw attempts, six assists, a team-high matching five rebounds and four steals in Sunday's 73-53 victory at the University of New Haven.

Dixon has played all 16 games in her first collegiate season, starting the last three, and is averaging 5.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals in 25.6 minutes per game. She has converted 81.8-percent (27-for-33) of her free-throw attempts and is averaging 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, three assists and 1.3 steals in 26.4 minutes per game in conference play.

Stonehill (10-6, 5-6 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it visits American International College for a key NE-10 matchup at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday to host Adelphi University at 1:30 p.m.
