Women's Basketball Team Participates in "Making Strides" Breast Cancer Walk in Boston - Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. (October 6, 2010) - Several members of the Stonehill College women's basketball team were among 40,000 walkers that participated in the 18th annual "Making Strides" Against Breast Cancer Walk" in Boston on Sunday.

Seniors Kristen McWhirter (Melvin Village, N.H./New Hampton Prep) and Amanda Smith (Penacook, N.H./Merrimack Valley), juniors Laura Discenza (Shelton, Conn./Lauralton Hall), Tania Williams (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward-Melville) and Cori O'Kane (Pocasset, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) and sophomores Erika Higginbottom (Millbury, Mass./Worcester Academy) and Anna Griffin (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) were among the thousands of walkers on Sunday that started and finished at the Esplanade and worked their way around a 5-mile route along Sturrow and Memorial Drives in Boston.

The walk is the nation's oldest and largest one-day breast cancer walk. It has raised nearly $42 million for the fight against breast cancer since its inception in 1993. Stonehill has been an active participant in the Walk in recent years.
