Famiano and Bowers win hurdles events for Skyhawks in outdoor opener
LOWELL, Mass. (March 30, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's track and field program opened its outdoor season with seven top five finishes, including a pair of wins in hurdles events, as the only non-Division I program competing at the UMass Lowell Invitational at the Cushing Field Complex today.
Junior Ethan Famiano won the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.51-seconds, leading the ten entries for the event, and the lone non-Division I competitor. Freshman Jack Bowers added another hurdles title for Stonehill today, when he led ten entries in the 400-meter hurdles with his first place finish in 55.45-seconds. Junior Jeremy Breen took tenth in the 400-hurdles in in 1:04.67.
Senior Xavier Young earned two of Stonehill's top five performances, placing second out of 14 throwers in the shot put with a New England Championships qualifying and personal-best distance of 51-feet, 1.75-inches. He also took third out of 12 entries in the discus throw with a personal-record distance of 138-feet, 3-inches.
Junior Justin Ireland also turned in two top five efforts for Stonehill, placing third out of 22 entries in the 100-meter dash in 11.02-seconds. He was also third out of 20 competitors in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 22.20-seconds. Sophomore Desmond Bernal took 17th in the 100-meters in 11.66.

Senior Daniel Bomba placed fifth out of 12 entries in the pole vault, clearing a height of 13-feet, 1.5-inches on his second attempt.
Other Stonehill Highlights Include:
Freshmen Evan Kennedy and Anthony Magazzu finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Kennedy clocked in at 2:00.74, while Magazzu finished in 2:06.36.
Freshman Robert Lisi placed sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 126-feet, 8-inches.
Junior Sean Conlan finished 30th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:14.57, while freshman Christopher Kelly finished 38th in 9:33.52.
Stonehill is back in action next weekend, when it participates in the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary University, in Williamsburg, Virginia, Thursday through Saturday. Stonehill will host its annual Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday, April 27.
