Men's Track & Field Picks Up Pair of NE10 Track Weekly Honors

EASTON, Mass. (January 22, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's track & field program collected a pair of weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference today.

Senior sprinter Joe Connolly was named the NE10 Male Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career and he is also a member of Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team that collected NE10 Relay of the Week honors today as well.

Connolly posted three strong performances for Stonehill at Saturday's Sorlein Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island. He finished third out of 24 entries in the 200-meter dash in 22.88-seconds, fastest among non-Division I competitors in the event. He was also the only non-Division I sprinter to qualify for the 60-meter dash finals and finished fourth in 7.08-seconds after qualifying third out of 24 entries in 7.09-seconds.

Connolly also ran the second leg of Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay that finished third as the only non-Division I team in the field of seven with a time of 3:30.35. Joining Connolly on the team on Saturday was sophomore Christopher Lanahan and freshmen Jack Bowers and Anthony Magazzu. Bowers ran the lead leg in 53.1-seconds, followed by a 51.2-second split by Connolly and then Magazzu completed the third leg in 53.8-seconds, before Lanahan finished the anchor leg in 51.8-seconds.

It marks the second time this season Stonehill has collected Relay of the Week after the 4x800-meter combination earned the honors on December 14. Connolly earns his first NE10 Athlete of the Week award. He currently ranks second on the NE10 60-meter dash performance list with his season-best 7.02-second performance at the Howlin' Husky Invitational on December 8, while ranking sixth in the NE10 for the 200-meter dash at 22.32-seconds at the Howlin' Husky Invitational.

Connolly is a three-time All-New England and two-time All-NE10 performer at Stonehill, earning All-Region honors as part of the Skyhawks school-record 4x100-meter relay team (41.71-seconds). He ran a personal-best 7.02-second 60-meter dash at the 2018 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships, posting a personal-best 200-meter dash of 21.70-seconds at the 2018 NE10 Outdoor Championships, where he also logged a personal-best 100-meter dash time of 10.85-seconds.

Stonehill returns to action next Saturday, January 26, when it splits between the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, and the Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University.
