Skyhawks honored after first place finish in season debut at URI

EASTON, Mass. (January 24, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's 4000-meter distance medley relay team earned Northeast-10 Conference Relay of the Week honors from the league office.

Juniors Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke), Daniel Madsen (West Haven, Connecticut/Notre Dame-West Haven), Lucas Taxter (Readville, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) and Alexander Demeule (Merrimac, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) ran the DMR for Stonehill which finished first at Saturday's Sorlien Memorial Invitational at the University of Rhode Island in 10:34.66. The converted time of 10:26.16 for being run on a flat track ranks as the fastest time for the event in the East Region this season by over 12-seconds.

Vercollone ran the opening 1200-meter leg in 3:18.3, before Madsen completed the 400-meter leg in 51.9-seconds and then Taxter running the 800-meter leg in 1:57.8, with Demeule finishing the mile anchor leg in 4:26.2.

It marks the second time this season Stonehill has earned NE10 Relay of the Week honors, after its 4x400-meter relay from the UMass Boston Winter Open, that included Madsen, collected the honors on December 6.

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, when its squad splits between the Tufts Stampede, hosted by Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, and the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, at 11 a.m.
