Santo & Innamorati Earn All-New England Honors with School-Record Performances

Skyhawk pair highlight day one of New England Outdoor Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (May 12, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's track and field program posted a pair of All-New England performances on day one of the New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Williams College, at Lee Track today.

Senior Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) and junior Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) headlined the day for Stonehill with a pair of All-New England performances to earn a combined five points that puts the team in 12th place in the team standings through six events. The University of Rhode Island leads the team standings with 49 points, followed by Dartmouth College with 46. The Skyhawks are third among the Division II programs competing this weekend, trailing sixth place Southern Connecticut State University (15 points) and 11th place Bentley University (6).

Santo, who produced a pair of NE10 Championships performances in distance events last weekend, earned All-New England honors for the third time in his career with his fifth place finish in the 5000-meter run, breaking a ten year old school record with his NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 14:35.53. The time ranks 43rd nationally in Division II this season and he surpasses the previous program record of 14:37.58 set by David Metzger '07 at the 2007 New England Championships at Dartmouth.

Santo led four Stonehill runners in the field of 29 entries for the event, with senior Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) finishing 12th in 14:55.97 and then junior Kenny Vinacco (Scituate, Rhode Island/Scituate) in 19th at 15:19.83. Senior Tyler Henseler (Coventry, Rhode Island/Bishop Hendricken) placed 22nd in 15:26.68.

Innamorati earns All-New England honors for the second straight year in the pole vault at the Outdoor Championship with a school-record matching height of 15-feet, 5-inches. He matches the school-record for the second time in his career which was first set by Luke Byrnes '13 at the 2013 Skyhawk Invitational. Innamorati first cleared the record height at the 2016 New England Championships at Southern Connecticut State. 

Other Stonehill Highlights Include:

Junior Joshua Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) led two Stonehill entries in the long jump with a distance of 21-feet, 1.25-inches to place 12th overall. Junior Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) placed 15th at 19-09-75.

Junior Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) placed 19th in the hammer throw with a distance of 161-feet, 8-inches.

Freshman Atiba McLaren (Pittsford, New York/McQuaid Jesuit) finished 30th in the 400-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 58.95-seconds.

Sophomore John Onken (Holbrook, New York/Sachem North) finished 14th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:11.16.

Stonehill is back in action on Saturday for day two of the New England Championships at Williams College, starting at noon.
