Men's Track & Field Set To Compete At New England Championships

Skyhawks ranked fourth in the East Region

EASTON, Mass. (May 12, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's track & field team, ranked No. 4 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II East Regional Computer Rankings have qualified for the 48th New England – NEICAAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship and will be headed to Southern Connecticut State University to compete on Friday.

Stonehill will be competing against other qualifying schools throughout New England from Divisions I, II, and III. Last year the team completed an 18th place finish and are aiming to reach another impressive finish this year.

Junior Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) will be competing in the 5000-meter run, qualifying for the New England Championships with his personal-best time of 14:51.82. He is seeded 13th in the competition and will be looking to duplicate his All-New England performance which he completed at the Indoor Championships in February. Junior Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) will also be competing in the 5000-meter run and is seeded 18th with a time of 15:04.98.

Freshman Lucas Taxter (Readville, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) qualified for the New England Championships in the 1500-meter run with his personal best time of 3:54.29 during the Skyhawk Invitational. He is seeded ninth and in the competition and has the fifth fastest time in the NE-10, while senior Robert Massey (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) will also be competing in the 1500-meter run seeded right behind Taxter in 12th with his time of 3:55.03.

Junior All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) is seeded ninth out of 32 entries in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.74 seconds, while freshman Joe Connolly (Wilmington, Massachusetts/Austin Prep) is slated 22nd in the 200-meter dash in 22.32 seconds.


Junior Joe Santo is seeded 13th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:51.82.

Junior Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) leads three Stonehill entries in the 800-meter run as he's seeded 26th with a time of 1:54.75. Sophomore Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) is seeded 28th and sports the same time as Burleigh at 1:54.75, while freshman Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) is slated 31st with a time of 1:55.49.

Senior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) is seeded tenth in the shot put with a distance of 50-feet, 8-inches which he set at last week's NE-10 Outdoor Championships, while sophomore Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) is seeded ninth in the hammer throw with a distance of 175-feet, 6-inches.

Sophomore Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton), the reigning NE-10 champion in the pole vault, is seeded 19th with a height of 15-feet, 1-inch.

The Men's Track and Field Team will be competing in the 4x800 relay, 4x400 relay, as well as the 4x100 relay. For the 4x800 the team is seeded 4th with a time of 7:40.50. The team running the 4x400 is seeded 13th with a time of 3:20.08 and the 4x100 relay team secured the 11th seed with their time of 42.46 seconds.
