4x400 relay earns All-Conference honors, Baldasare strong in four events

Stonehill finished the two day meet with 92 points, while American International College claimed the team championship with 200 points and Southern Connecticut State University ran second with 185.50 points. Franklin Pierce University (88 points) and Merrimack College (72.50) rounded out the top five.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team earned All-Northeast-10 honors with a second place finish in 3:20.08, edging out Southern Connecticut State by just under three quarters of a second (3:20.77). Running the relay for the Skyhawks to collect All-Conference honors were sophomore Ruddy Severino (Methuen, Massachusetts/Methuen) on the lead leg, followed by classmate Patrick Ahern (Charlotte, North Carolina/Providence Day School) and then freshman Daniel Madsen (West Haven, Connecticut/Notre Dame-West Haven) before junior All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) completed the anchor leg.

Baldasare also finished third in the 400-meter dash with his time of 48.74-seconds, while Ahern placed 12^th in 50.93-seconds and Severino was 13^th in 51.00-seconds. Baldasare was sixth in the 200-meter final this afternoon with a time of 22.37-seconds after qualifying fifth on Friday in a personal-best 22.24-seconds. He also ran the anchor leg for Stonehill's 4x100-meter relay that finished sixth in 42.50-seconds, following Severino, Ahern and freshman Joe Connolly (Wilmington, Massachusetts/Austin Prep).

Senior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) narrowly missed earning All-Northeast-10 honors in the shot put with a third place finish out of 15 throwers with his distance of 50-feet, 8-inches. Freshman Darren Shi (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) placed ninth at 42-11.50. Griffin was also 15^th in the discus with a throw of 111-feet, 3-inches, while sophomore Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) placed tenth at 122-01.

Junior Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) led a pack of four Stonehill runners in the top ten for the 5,000-meter run and eight overall with a third place finish in 15:04.98. Sophomore Sam Bradford (Bedford, Massachusetts/Bedford) finished seventh in 15:16.90, while freshman John Onken (Holbrook, New York/Sachem North) was eighth in 15:21.16 and freshman Steve Scala (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) placed ninth at 15:21.37.

Sophomore Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) finished fourth in the decathlon after sitting fifth through the first five events. He opened day two of the event with a second place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.54-seconds, before placing fourth in the pole vault with a height of 12-feet, 3.50-inches and javelin throw at 144-feet, 5-inches. On Friday, Hamalian placed second for the high jump by clearing a personal-best height of 6-feet, even, and was third in the long jump with a distance of 20-feet, 10-inches.

Also Friday, sophomore Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) highlighted the first day for Stonehill by defending his title in the pole vault as he cleared a personal-best height of 15-feet, 1-inch on his second attempt. Junior Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) also earned All-Northeast-10 honors on Friday with his second place finish in the 10,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 31:16.24.

Other Stonehill Day Two Results Included:

Sophomore Jordan Sullivan (Sound Beach, New York/Miller Place) placed fourth in the high jump when he cleared 6-feet, 4-inches, matching the winning height, but requiring more attempts. 

Sophomore Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of 55.53-seconds. 

Sophomore James Murphy (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) finished sixth out of 15 runners in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:50.15. 

Freshman Lucas Taxter (Readville, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) ninth in the 800-meter run in 1:55.46, while junior Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) was 17^th out of 54 entries in 1:56.34.

Sophomore Jonathan Naval (Sratford, Connecticut/Bunnell) finished tenth in the triple jump with a distance of 44-feet, 4-inches. 

Stonehill's qualified student-athletes will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the New England Outdoor Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Connecticut, Friday and Saturday, May 13 at 14.
