EASTON, Mass. (February 18, 2015) – Stonehill College junior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.

Griffin led Stonehill's field athletes at Saturday's David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, as he posted the fifth-longest distance in the Northeast-10 for the shot put this winter with his throw of 47-feet, 3.50-inches to place 23rd out of 67 in the event. His season-best distance of 47-09.25 at the Tufts University Invitational on January 17 set a new school record.

Griffin has also competed in the weight throw for Stonehill this winter with a season-best distance of 39-feet, 6.50-inches at Tufts for 17th place. His personal-best in that event is 41-02.25 at the 2014 URI Coaches' Tribute meet his sophomore year. Griffin enters this weekend's Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships seeded fourth for the shot put as he seeks his first All-Northeast-10 performance on Saturday. He has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's and Athletic Director's Honor Roll two semesters over his career for his efforts in the classroom.

The Stonehill men's track & field program, ranked third in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional rankings, seeks its fifth-straight top two finish at the NE-10 Championships on Saturday night at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks won its first NE-10 Indoor Championship in 2013.
