Kirkpatrick makes run at NCAA qualifying time in mile
BOSTON, Mass. (February 14, 2015) – The Stonehill College men's track & field program, ranked third in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional rankings, competed on day two of the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, at the BU Track & Tennis Center today.
Junior All-American Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Indiana/Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) led the way for Stonehill by placing 53rd out of 314 entries in the one mile run with a time of 4:12.44 – just 0.01-seconds off the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.
Freshman Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) paced Stonehill's field athletes by finishing 16th out of 65 entries in the long jump with a distance of 21-feet, 6.25-inches. Classmate Joshua Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) was 29th with a leap of 20-10.50.
Senior Teague Grubel (Phoenix, Arizona/Shadow Mountain) finished a strong 35th out of 206 entries in the 200-meter dash in 22.11-seconds and also placed 51st out of 194 competitors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.56-seconds.
Sophomore Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) finished an impressive 43rd out of 206 entries in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.92, while freshman Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) placed 72nd in 1:56.67.

Junior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) took 23rd place out of 67 competitors in the shot put with a distance of 47-feet, 3.50-inches. Freshman John Irving (Wareham, Massachusetts/Wareham) finished 30th with a throw of 45-00.50, while sophomore Carmen Cilfone (Falmouth, Massachusetts/Falmouth) placed 40th at 43-10.50.
Senior All-American Daniel Zawalich (Paxton, Massachusetts/St. John's of Shrewsbury) finished 59th in the field of 120 in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:31.96, while classmate Bryan Wilcox (Plantsville, Connecticut/Southington) placed 80th in 8:42.26.
Freshman Ruddy Severino (Methuen, Massachusetts/Methuen) placed 39th out of 83 competitors in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:07.54.
Senior All-American Nick Staley (Medway, Massachusetts/BC High) placed 17th out of 39 in the high jump with a height of 6-feet, 4.75-inches.
Junior Morgan Johnson (West Newbury, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) placed 23rd out of 63 throwers in the weight throw with a distance of 49-feet, 1.75-inches. Freshman Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) finished 25th at 48-06.75, while senior Daniel Cormier (Methuen, Massachusetts/Methuen) was right behind him in 26th at 47-09.00.
Stonehill opens its indoor championship season next Saturday when it competes in the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at 4 p.m.
