Skyhawk seniors qualify for New Englands, Cina just misses NCAA PQ

BOSTON, Mass. (January 25, 2014) – Two members of the Stonehill College men's track and field program competed in the 5000-meter run at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, at the BU Track & Tennis Center this morning.

Stonehill seniors Paul Cina (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) and Trent Fontanella (Pelham, N.H./Bishop Guertin) both qualified for next month's New England Championships in the distance event with their performances today. Cina won their section and placed 18th overall in the field of 84 runners with his time of 14-minutes, 53.95-seconds, a time which is nearly three seconds under the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division II Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C., in March, but falls shy after being adjusted for the banking at BU's track. Fontanella was close behind Cina in 26th place overall with his time of 15:00.01, good for fifth in the section.

Stonehill is in action next Saturday, February 1, at the URI Coaches' Tribute Meet, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, in Kingston, R.I., at 11 a.m.
