EASTON, Mass. (May 8, 2013) – The top collegiate track and field athletes from all levels across New England will converge on W.B. Mason Stadium over the next three days as Stonehill College serves as host of the 2013 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The event kicks off with the first five events of the decathlon on Thursday at 1 p.m. Decathletes will complete the 100-meter dash (1 p.m.), long jump (1:45 p.m.), shot put (3 p.m.), high jump (4 p.m.) and then 400-meter dash (6 p.m.) on day one of the Championships. The event will continue on Friday with the final five decathlon events starting at 10 a.m., with the heptathlon getting underway at 10:15 a.m. The individual event championships will start on Friday, beginning with the men's javelin throw at 11 a.m., and track events getting underway starting with the women's 100-meter hurdle trails at 2 p.m. Saturday's schedule starts with day two of the heptathlon starting at 10 a.m. The women's discus throw will get the second day of field events started at noon, with the track opening up with the women's unseeded 3000-meter steeplechase at noon.

Stonehill and W.B. Mason Stadium hosts the New England Championships for the first time after having served as host of the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Stonehill also hosted the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in 2005 and 2006.

The Stonehill women, ranked sixth in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Regional rankings, will look to improve on a pair of All-New England performances from 2012 and has 14 individual and two relay entries this weekend.


Sophomore Maria Curit is expected to contend for All-New England honors for both the 400-meter dash and long jump.

The Stonehill men, ranked third in the USTFCCCA East Regional rankings, looks to extend its streak of six straight top ten team finishes at the New England Outdoor Championships after finishing a program-best fourth at the 2013 Championships, hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Skyhawks had nine All-New England (top eight) performances last year and will have 22 individual and two relay entries this weekend.

Athletes to watch for Stonehill include:

Senior All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) is a two-time individual New England outdoor champion and five-time All-New England performer heading into his final New England Outdoor Championships. He won both the 110-meter high hurdles and high jump titles as a freshman in 2010 and posted a third place finish in the high jump in 2012. Thomas finished second and third for the 60-meter hurdles and high jump, respectively at the 2013 New England Indoor Championships in February. The 2011 NCAA Division II indoor high jump national champion is an eight-time All-American.

Sophomore Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) earned All-New England honors for the 400-meter dash as a freshman with a fifth place finish at the 2012 New England Outdoor Championships and nearly earned the honors for the long jump with a tenth place showing in Cambridge. She is also slated to run with Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team that has qualified for the Championships.

Sophomore All-American Nick Staley (Medway, Mass./BC High) captured his first New England Championship for the high jump at the Indoor Championships in February when he cleared a personal-best 7-feet, 0.25-inches. He earned All-New England honors at the 2012 Outdoor Championships with his second place effort. Staley collected All-America honors for the first time at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

Senior Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) is seeded third for Friday's 10,000-meter run and looks to claim All-New England honors for the second straight year for the event after placing second at the 2012 Championships. McBride is a two-time Northeast-10 Conference 10,000-meter champion who is coming off a fourth place finish in the 5000-meter run at last weekend's NE-10 Championships. Junior Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) will be looking to build off last weekend's NE-10 Championship run in the 10,000-meters with her first run in the event at New Englands. She finished 13th in the 5000-meter run as a sophomore.

Sophomore Bryan Wilcox (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) looks to ride the momentum from his NE-10 Championship in the 10,000-meter run into this weekend's Championships and earn All-New England honors for the first time. He placed 12th at the 2012 New England Championships for the event.

Sophomore Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) looks to improve on an All-New England performance in the 1500-meter run as a freshman. She finished third for the event at last weekend's NE-10 Championships (4:37.55). Anderson is also scheduled to run with Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay team that looks to post an All-New England finish after placing ninth each of the last two years.

Junior Xavier Dixon (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) is a two-time All-New England performer for the 110-meter high hurdles. He collected All-Northeast-10 honors with a second place finish at last weekend's NE-10 Championships and finished fifth at last year's New England Championships after placing sixth in 2011.

Sophomore Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) is in the seeded heat for the 800-meter run and looks to earn All-New England honors at the Outdoor Championships for the first time after finishing tenth as a freshman.

Stonehill's men's 4x800-meter relay team has posted All-New England finishes each of the last three years, placing fourth the last two years. Scheduled to run the event for the Skyhawks are sophomore All-American Patrick Cooney (Douglaston, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), senior All-American Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep), freshman Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) and senior Sam Spencer (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) who combined to finish third at last weekend's NE-10 Championships with a school-record time of 7:37.12. Hanlon, Cooney and Spencer were all part of last year's All-New England performance.

Cooney is also an All-New England contender in the 800-meter run after finishing ninth as a freshman.

Qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Championships in Pueblo, Colo., will be announced next week with the Championships, hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo, running May 23-25.
