Saintil's school-record triple jump leads four event winners for Skyhawks
AMHERST, Mass. (April 13, 2013) – Stonehill College turned in a fourth place team finish with four event winners at the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Invitational at UMass Track & Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Stonehill compiled 78 points to finish fourth in the team standings, second among non-Division I programs, at the event. Northeastern University won the team title with 110.50 points, followed by second place Williams College (101) and third place Central Connecticut State University (89.50). The Skyhawks finished just ahead of host UMass (71).
Junior Herby Saintil (Roslindale, Mass./BC High) led Stonehill's four event winners with his first place finish in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 46-feet, 10.75-inches. He surpassed his own previous school record distance of 46-01.50 set at the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Championships at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
Sophomore All-American Daniel Zawalich (Paxton, Mass./St. John's of Shrewsbury) and junior Christopher Dooley (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) swept the top two spots in the 1500-meter run. Zawalich won the event in 3:58.77, while Dooley finished right behind in second in 3:59.66. Junior All-American Justin Blaszczyk (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown) finished 15th in the field of 66 entries with a time of 4:06.55.
Sophomore All-American Nick Staley (Medway, Mass./BC High) and senior All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) finished first and second, respectively in the high jump. Both cleared 6-feet, 7-inches, with Staley winning the event with fewer attempts than Thomas, who placed second.

Junior Xavier Dixon (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) won the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.78-seconds.
Sophomore Daniel Cormier (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) placed fourth in the shot put with a distance of 46-feet, 1.50-inches. Freshman Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) finished seventh with a throw of 44-04.75. Cormier was also tenth in the hammer throw with a distance of 131-feet, 10-inches.
Stonehill finished sixth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 43.70-seconds. Running the event for the Skyhawks were junior Michael Harris (Danvers, Mass./Danvers), sophomore Robert Smith (Woburn, Mass./Woburn Memorial), freshman Justin Howard-Callender (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) and junior George Georgaklis (Westwood, Mass./Westwood).
Stonehill had a pair of relay teams finish ninth and tenth in the 4x400-meter relay. The Skyhawks B-team of sophomore All-American Patrick Cooney (Douglaston, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), senior All-American Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep), freshman Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) and senior Sam Spencer (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) finished ninth in 3:29.38. Stonehill's A-team of junior Tyler Moules (Billerica, Mass./Billerica), senior Colin Prior (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep), senior Daniel Padilla (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) and Smith placed tenth in 3:29.54.

Cooney also finished fifth in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:54.83 to lead five Stonehill entries in the top 16 out of 64 overall. Senior Tim Johnson (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston) and Spencer finished 11th and 12th, respectively in 1:55.28 and 1:55.29. Kirkpatrick and Hanlon also ran back to back in 15th and 16th place. Kirkpatrick finished in 1:55.28, while Hanlon posted a time of 1:55.64.
Senior Luke Byrnes (Glen Head, N.Y./Chaminade) placed fifth in the pole vault as he cleared 14-feet, 3.25-inches.
Howard-Callender also finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 20-feet, 0.50-inches.
Other Stonehill Highlights Include:
Junior Taylor Viotto (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) placed ninth in the javelin throw with a distance of 152-feet, 7-inches.
Moules finished 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.43-seconds.
Harris placed 13th out of 36 sprinters in the 100-meter dash in 11.55-seconds. He also finished 18th out of 56 in the 200-meter dash in 22.95-seconds.
Smith finished 14th out of 46 entries in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.31-seconds.
Freshman Morgan Johnson (West Newbury, Mass./St. John's Prep) placed 14th in the discus throw with a distance of 116-feet, 10-inches.
Stonehill will be back in action next Saturday when it competes at College of the Holy Cross for a meet at 11 a.m.
