Skyhawk All-Americans take top two places in high jump to highlight day two
DURHAM, N.C. (April 8, 2013) – Stonehill College's All-America high jumpers highlighted day two of the Duke University Invitational at Wallace Wade Stadium today.
Stonehill All-America high jumpers Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) and sophomore Nick Staley (Medway, Mass./BC High) once again ran first and second for the event. Thomas placed first by clearing an NCAA Championships provisional qualifying height of 6-feet, 10.25-inches, while Staley's placed second with a leap of 6-08.25 – just a half inch shy of the provisional qualification standard.
Thomas also finished fourth for the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.66-seconds qualifying second to eventual winner Milan Ristic of UNC-Ashville, with an NCAA Championships provisional qualifying time of 14.46-seconds. Junior Xavier Dixon (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) finished right behind Thomas in fifth place in the final with a time of 14.73-seconds after qualifying fourth in 14.72 – just 0.03-seconds shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.
Senior Luke Byrnes (Glen Head, N.J./Chaminade) finished fifth for the pole vault by clearing 14-feet, 07.25-inches.

Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay placed fourth in 7:46.93. Running for the Skyhawks were senior Tim Johnson (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston), sophomore All-American Daniel Zawalich (Paxton, Mass./ St. John's of Shrewsbury) and seniors Sam Spencer (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) and Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's of Shrewsbury).
Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team finished 11th with a time of 3:26.42. Running the event for the Skyhawks were junior Tyler Moules (Billerica, Mass./Billerica), Staley, junior Christopher Dooley (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and sophomore Robert Smith (Woburn, Mass./Woburn Memorial).
Smith also placed 11th for the long jump with a distance of 20-feet, 1.75-inches. Senior Colin Prior (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep) finished 14th with a leap of 20-00.50, while junior George Georgaklis (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) was 15th at 19-10.25.

Sophomore Daniel Cormier (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) placed 12th for the shot put with a distance of 45-feet, 9.25-inches. Freshman Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) was 19th at 42-10.75.
Other Stonehill Highlights Include:
Senior Ethan Penney (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) placed 16th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:45.33.
Freshman Andrew Hastings (Broad Brook, Conn./Hebron Academy) placed 21st for the discus throw with a distance of 126-feet, 9-inches.
Freshman Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) finished 22nd in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:55.84. Dooley took 27th in 1:56.70.
Junior All-American Justin Blaszczyk (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown) finished 27th out of 58 competitors in the developmental 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.35.
Junior Michael Harris (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) placed 35th out of 54 sprinters in the 100-meter dash with his time of 11.53-seconds. He was also 50th in a field of 69 for the 200-meter dash with his time of 23.29-seconds. Smith finished 48th in 23.26-seconds.
Stonehill will compete at the UMass Minuteman Invitational in Amherst, Mass., next Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
