Indoor Season

2012-13: All-Northeast-10 (800m). Participated in six meets for Stonehill. Placed twelfth at URI Sorlien Invitational (1/19/13) with a time of 2:39.30 in the 1000-meter run. Finished ninth at Joe Donahue Games (1/25) in the 800m with a time of 1:57.92. Placed second in the event at Tufts Cupid Challenge (2/11) with a time of 1:58.02. Took home All-Conference honors with a second-place finish at the Northeast-10 Championships (2/16) with a time of 1:55.49, an indoor personal record. Set a new personal record in the next meet, a 1:53.89 finish (16th) at New England Championships (2/23).

2011-12: All-American (Distance Medley Relay). All-New England (4x800m). All-Northeast-10 (4x800m). USTFCCCA East Region (Distance Medley Relay). Competed in five races and six relay events over the course of the season. Earned All-America status in the distance medley relay along with teammates Justin Blaszczyk, Sean Hanlon and Daniel Zawalich with a sixth place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships (3/10/12) in a total time of 10:04.69.  Claimed All-New England honors in both the 4x800-meter relay and the distance medley relay at the New England Championships on February 24-25. Helped the distance medley relay squad automatically qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships with a second place time of 9:50.33, a new school record. Also, finished fifth overall in the 4x800-meter relay in 7:41.53. Placed second overall in the 1,000-meter run in his first ever collegiate race at the Jay Carisella Invitational (12/3/11) with a time of 2:30.43. Claimed second place overall in the 800-meter run at the Reggie Poyau Invitational (12/10/11) in 1:57.28. Finished sixth overall out of 47 competitors in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.55, a personal best indoors, at the New Balance Boston Collegiate Indoor Games on January 27, 2012. Ranked fourth overall in the 1,000-meter run at the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Championships (2/18/12) in 2:29.82, a personal best time. Finished 59th overall out of 208 competitors in the 800-meter run at the Boston University Valentine Invitational (2/11/12) in 1:55.69.

Outdoor Season

2013: All-New England (800m). Participated in six meets for the Skyhawks. Placed ninth in the 1500-meter at Bridgewater State Bears Invitational (3/23) with a time of 4:09.43. Captured sixth in the 400m dash at Holy Cross Invitational (4/20) with a time of 51.14, a personal best. Saw action in the 800m run for the rest of the season. Placed fifth at UMass Invitational (4/13) with a time of 1:54.83. At Skyhawk Invitational (4/26), placed fourth with a time of 1:55.45. Saw another fourth-place finish at Northeast-10 Championships (5/4) with an improved time of 1:53.31. Was able to capture an All-New England bid with an eighth-place finish at the New England Championships (5/11) with a time of 1:52.44, a personal best. Also saw action on the 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams, including a third-place finish at Northeast-10 Championships (7:37.12).

2012: Competed in five meets for the Skyhawks during their spring season. Took 8th/56 in the 800m at the UConn Spring Invitational, in 1:56.68. Notched a 13th/32 finish in the 400m in 52.64 at the George Davidson Invitational. Earned 2nd/12 competitors in the 800m at the Skyhawk Invitational, with a time of 1:56.54. Placed 10th/25 in the 800m, 1:55.26, at the Holy Cross Crusades. Finished 7th/22 in the Brown Springtime Invitational 400m, in 51.76.

High School: 2011 graduate of Archbishop Molloy. Four-year letter winner in soccer, indoor and outdoor track and field. Two-time City Champion and two-time state finalist in soccer. CHSAA State champion for 600 meters. Indoor and outdoor track and field captain. Eight-time All-Brooklyn/Queens selection. Personal bests include 49.7 (400 meters), 1:22.6 (600 meters), 1:54.02 (800 meters) and 4:27 (1,600 meters).

Personal: Son of Marianne and Edward Cooney of Douglaston, N.Y. Has two sisters, Tara (26 and Kathleen (23) and one brother, Edward (21). Majoring in business. Lists greatest sports momeny as winning the CHSAA State Championship for the 600 meters. His father, Edward, was an All-American in football at Hobart College and a national champion in lacrosse.
