Staley Named NE-10 Field Rookie of the Week

Medway, Mass., freshman honored following strong debut performance

EASTON, Mass. (December 8, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman Nicholas Staley (Medway, Mass./BC High) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Field Rookie of the Week by the league office.

Staley collects the honors for the first time after his standout performance in his collegiate debut event at the Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University, at Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on Saturday. He provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in March for the high jump by clearing 6-feet, 9.75-inches to win the event. The first place finish was tops among 25 entries and 3.75-inches better than Boston College senior Jonathan Bogosian in second place.

Staley, a former high school teammate of Stonehill junior All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High), the reigning NCAA Division II indoor high jump national champion, was a two-time Massachusetts Division 1 State Champion in the high jump at BC High. He earned Catholic Conference MVP honors during the 2011 outdoor season.

Stonehill is back in action on Saturday when it participates in the Reggie Poyau Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University, in Waltham, Mass., starting at 11 a.m.
