EASTON, Mass. (May 24, 2011) – Ten members of the Stonehill College men's track and field team have earned All-East Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performances during the 2011 outdoor season. This season is the first for which the USTFCCCA has named All-Region selections in outdoor track & field. The awards recognize each region's top five performers in individual events and top three teams in relay events.

Heading Stonehill's lists of All-East Region performers for the outdoor season are junior Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) and sophomore All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) who both collected the honors in two events. Senior All-Americans Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) and Nathan Morse (Whitinsville, Mass./Holy Name) and classmate Daniel Newton (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial), junior Daniel Kincade (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield), sophomores Jonathan Gelcius (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), Kevin McCann (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) and Ethan Penney (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) and freshman Xavier Harris-Dixon (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) round out the Skyhawks list of All-Region performers.

Polito earns his first two All-Region track honors for both the 5000 and 10,000-meter runs. A two-time NE-10 champion at 10,000-meters, he earned All-New England honors for the event this spring with a second-place finish at the New England Championships last week, posting his All-Region qualifying time of 31:14.61. Polito's All-Region performance in the 5000-meters came with his time of 14:47.08 in placing 73rd (out of 153 runners) at Princeton University's Larry Ellis Invitational in April. He finished third in the event at the NE-10 Championships in 15:21.31.

Polito is a two-time All-Region performer in cross country, running to the honors this past fall as well as during his freshman season in 2008. He has also collected All-Northeast-10 honors in cross country all three seasons and is a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic performer. Polito earned the NE-10 Sport Excellence Award in cross country this past fall and has collected NE-10 Academic All-Conference honors for cross country and indoor track & field twice and outdoor track & field once to date.

Thomas, the reigning indoor high jump national champion, has also earned All-East region honors for the high jump and 110-meter high hurdles to become a four-time All-Region performer in the first year of the USTFCCCA honors. The two-time USTFCCCA Indoor East Region Field Athlete of the Year collected All-East honors this past winter for the high jump and 60-meter hurdles, before going on to capture All-America honors for both at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, where he won his first national championship in the high jump.

Thomas, who has qualified for the NCAA II Outdoor Championships in the high jump and 110-meter hurdles for the second-straight year, is ranked tenth nationally and second in the region for the high jump with his leap of 6-feet, 11-inches at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational in April. He is ranked first in the region and 17th nationally for the hurdles with his school-record time of 14.31-seconds in earning All-New England honors with his second place finish at last week's New England Championships. Thomas also earned All-New England honors in the high jump with a third place showing, while capturing the NE-10 Championship for both earlier in the month.

Thomas is a four-time All-American over his two year career at Stonehill, a total he will look to add to later this week. He is a two-time indoor high jump All-American, also collecting indoor All-America honors for the 60-meter hurdles earlier this season, and posted an All-America finish at the 2010 Outdoor Championships as a freshman. He has also earned eight All-New England and All-Northeast-10 honors, is a three time New England and four time NE-10 Champion over his two year career.

Fullerton, an NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifier for the second-straight year, collects All-East Region honors in the 1500-meter run in which he qualified. He is ranked sixth nationally and first in the East with his school-record time of 3:47.34 set in his second-place finish at the New England Championships last week to earn All-New England honors in that event for the second-straight year. Fullerton also won the NE-10 championship at 1500 meters to earn All-Conference honors in that event for the second-straight year as well.

Fullerton was part of Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay (DMR) team that posted All-America honors during the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in March. He also won the New England championship at 1000-meters this past winter and collected All-New England honors for cross country with a tenth place finish at the New England Cross Country Championships. Fullerton was a two-time All-Region honoree during the indoor season in the mile and DMR.

Fullerton is a two-time All-Region and All-Northeast-10 performer in cross country, also posting an All-New England finish (10th) at the New England Championships in October with a time of 24:48 over the eight kilometer course. He placed fourth at the NE-10 Championships for first team All-Conference honors and fifth at the NCAA East Regional for first team All-Region accolades.

Morse collects the second All-Region honor of his senior year, but first as an individual with his performance this spring at 800-meters. His school-record time of 1:52.53 set at the New England Championships last week was good for sixth overall (out of 29 runners) to earn All-New England honors and is the fourth fastest 800 time in the region this season. The time was also good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, ranking 32nd nationally.

Morse was a member of Stonehill's distance medley relay team that ran to All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. He also earned All-New England honors at 500-meters during the winter and ran fourth in the 500 at the NE-10 Championships. Morse was part of the Skyhawks 4x800-meter relay team this spring that posted an All-New England finish in a school-record 7:37.87 and also captured the NE-10 Championship two weeks ago.

Newton was eighth at the NE-10 Championships this spring as well.

Newton also collected All-Region honors for the shot put during the indoor season, posting a distance of 45-1.75 to place third at the Tufts Stampede. He placed fifth at the NE-10 Indoor Championships for the event this winter as well. Newton captured the 2010 NE-10 Championship in the discus with a distance of 129-feet, three-inches, and was third at the 2010 NE-10 Indoor Championships for the shot put.

Kincade earns his second All-East Region honor of the year in the hammer throw with his school-record distance of 167-feet, five-inches, at the Northeast-10 Championships earlier this month, marking the third-longest distance in the region this season, to place third overall.

Kincade also earned All-Region honors during the indoor season for the weight throw, posting the fourth-longest throw in the region at a school-record 51-feet, 10.5-inches, at the Tufts Stampede in February. He also placed third at the NE-10 Indoor Championships in February with a distance of 50-3.5.

Gelcius earns his first All-East Region honor in the javelin after his NCAA provisional qualifying and school-record distance of 196-feet, two-inches, set at the season-opening Bridgewater State University Bears Invitational in March – marking the top throw in the region this spring. He also earned All-Northeast-10 honors for the second-straight year with his second-place finish earlier this month.

McCann earns his first All-East Region honor at the pole vault, having cleared a program-record height of 14-feet, 3.25-inches in placing second at the UMass Minuteman Invitational in April. He matched that height at last week's New England Championships, posting a tenth place finish after finishing fourth at the NE-10 Championships the week prior.

McCann placed sixth at the NE-10 Indoor Championships in February and also holds the program's indoor pole vault record at 14-feet, 5.25-inches at the Harvard University Open in December. He was third at the NE-10 Indoor Championships and fourth at the NE-10 Outdoor Championships as a freshman.

Penney earns his first All-East Region honor with his performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase this spring. He owns the third-fastest time in the region after posting a time of 9:44.66 for a second-place finish at the NE-10 Championships two weeks ago to earn his first All-Northeast-10 honor. Penney also ran to All-New England honors in the 5000-meter run with a seventh place showing at the New England Championships in 14:58.68 – the seventh-fastest time for that event in the region this season.

Penney posted a fifth place finish in the 5000-meter run at the NE-10 Indoor Championships in February, winning the event at the Tufts Stampede earlier in the month (15:16.59). Penney is also a member of Stonehill's nationally-ranked cross country program, earning third-team All-Northeast-10 honors as a freshman with a 20th place finish at the NE-10 Championships to help the Skyhawks win the Conference title.

Harris-Dixon earns his second All-Region honor of his freshman season with his personal-best time of 14.68-seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to also collect All-New England accolades at last week's New England Championships with his sixth place finish. He also placed second to Thomas in the NE-10 Outdoor Championships to earn his second All-Conference honor of his freshman season.

During the indoor season, Harris-Dixon earned All-East Region honors for the 60-meter hurdles with his season-best time of 8.46-seconds in the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles at the New England Championships. He also placed second to Thomas in the 55-meter hurdles at the NE-10 Indoor Championships to collect his first All-Conference honor.

Fullerton and Thomas will round out the 2011 season for Stonehill this weekend when they participate in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus, in Turlock, Calif., Thursday through Saturday.
