Skyhawks finish weekend with eight All-New England performances after record-breaking Saturday
Stonehill, who sat in 11th place following day two of the championships, finished with 43 points for its sixth place finish as a team. Host Southern Connecticut State University won the event with 110 points to top Northeastern University's 86.50 points, with the University of Rhode Island taking third (82). It was a great weekend for the Northeast-10 as the Conference placed three teams in the top six with the University of Massachusetts Lowell joining Southern Connecticut and Stonehill in that group with a fourth place finish (77 points).
Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay team blazed to All-New England honors with its fourth place finish in a school-record time of 7:37.87 – shattering the ten year old school mark of 7:40.50 set at Princeton University on May 2, 2001. Running today for the Skyhawks were the Indoor All-America distance medley relay team of seniors Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill), Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) and Nathan Morse (Whitinsville, Mass./Holy Name) and sophomore Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep).
Fullerton also solidified his NCAA Championship qualification in the 1500-meter run by breaking his own school record with a time of 3:47.34 to place second overall (in the field of 29 runners) and earn All-New England status in the event for the second-straight year. He broke his own previous record of 3:47.62 set at the Larry Ellis Invitational in April. Sophomore Samuel Spencer (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) finished 24th in the event on Saturday in 4:00.82.

Morse also took All-New England honors in the 800-meter run with a school-record time of 1:52.53, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championships in two weeks. He broke an over ten year old school record of 1:52.99 set by Cullen Hagan at Northeastern on April 21, 2001. Hanlon finished 11th (in the field of 29) in 1:53.55.
Sophomore All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) earned All-New England honors in two events for the second-straight year. He placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles and improved his NCAA Championships qualification status by breaking his own school record with a time of 14.31-seconds. Jeremy Rosado from Sacred Heart University won the event with a time of 14.26-seconds. Thomas broke his previous school mark of 14.32-seconds set at the 2010 NE-10 Championships, hosted by Stonehill. Freshman Xavier Harris-Dixon (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) also earned All-New England honors for the hurdles with a sixth place finish in a season-best time of 14.68.
Thomas took third in the high jump, clearing a height of 6-feet, 8.75-inches. He matched the height of runner up Matthew Jeune of the University of New Haven, but needed more attempts to clear the height. Trent Baltzell from Rhode Island won the event by clearing 6-10.75.
On Friday, junior Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) and sophomore Ethan Penney (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) both collected All-New England honors in the 10,000 and 5000-meter runs, respectively. Polito placed second (in the field of 27) with a personal best time of 31:14.61 to earn All-New England status for the 10,000 for the second-straight year. Penney placed seventh (out of 30) in 14:58.68 for his first All-New England performance.
Stonehill will await official word on who will represent the College at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus, when the official championship field is announced on Tuesday. The NCAA Championships run Thursday, May 26, through Saturday, May 28.
