Results 

NORTON, Mass. (January 23, 2010) - The Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team placed third out of ten teams at the Wheaton College Invitational held at the Haas Athletic Center today.

Stonehill compiled 98 points on the day, bettered only by team champion Williams College (123.50) and second-place and host Wheaton College (112).

Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) highlighted the day for the men's team as he continues to re-write the Stonehill record book in just his second event at the collegiate level. He broke two school records, including one of his own set in his collegiate debut earlier this season.

Thomas started the day by winning the high jump with a school-record jump of 2.07-meters (6'9.48") to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., in March and also qualify for the New England Championships in February. The leap bettered the previous school record of 6'8" set by teammate Joe D'Agostino (Canton, Mass./Canton) last season and matched by Thomas at the season-opening Jay Carisella Invitational in December.

D'Agostino placed second in the high jump today with a jump of 1.93-meters (6'3.96"). He also took third in the long jump with a leap of 6.24-meters (20'5.64").

Thomas bettered his previous provisional qualifying time in the 55-meter high hurdles with a time of 7.67-seconds in the final after winning his qualifying heat with a time of 7.89 seconds. He broke his own school record of 7.69 seconds in the final which he set in his collegiate debut at the Jay Carisella Invitational on December 5.

Junior Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) was also an individual winner for Stonehill as he paced three Skyhawks in the top five with a time of 4:17.27. Classmate Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) placed third in 4:23.24, while sophomore Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) was fourth in 4:24.11. Junior Daniel Fidler (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) finished seventh in 4:28.94, while freshman Tim Johnson (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston) placed 11th in 4:34.67 as Stonehill dominated the event.

Stonehill's top distance relay team won that event with a time of 10:31.76, finishing 17.19-seconds faster that the second place team from Williams (10:48.95). Stonehill's "B" relay team took third in 10:58.41.

Freshman Kevin McCann (Monroe, Conn./Masuk), the school-record holder in the event, placed third in the pole vault with a height of 3.81-meters (12'6"), followed by classmate Patrick Byrnes (Glen Head, N.J./Chaminade) in fourth, with an identical height.

Junior Daniel Newton (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) placed third in the shot put with a distance of 13.44-meters (44'1.2"). He also finished eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.11-meters (39'8.76").

Freshman Jonathan Gelcius (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 12.71-meters (41'8.4").

Sophomore Corey Donahoe (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) placed ninth in the 5000-meters with a time of 16:04.84.

Sophomore Pak Lul (Portland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) placed third in the 400-meter dash in 50.59-seconds.

Freshman Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep) placed fifth in the 800-meter run in 1:57.94.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team placed fifth in 3:35.69.

Stonehill is back in action next weekend with a pair of events, starting Friday at the Reebok Collegiate Indoor Games at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center as well as Saturday's BU Terrier Classic at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
