Stonehill Competes at George Davis Invitational
Thomas enjoys another record-setting afternoon, joins Fullerton as event winner
LOWELL, Mass. (April 11, 2010) – The Stonehill College men’s outdoor track and field team picked up two individual victories and saw more records fall while competing at the George Davis Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell, on Saturday.
Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) continued to shine with two more record-setting performances. First, he dominated the 110-meter hurdles for the second-straight week with a first place finish. His facility, meet and school-record run of 14.75-seconds was over a half second faster than the second place time of 15.30. He broke his own school record of 14.80-seconds set in his winning performance at the Bryant Invitational last weekend. He also shattered the meet and facility record of 14.99-seconds set by Donte Brown at the event in 2008. Thomas finished second in the high jump with a school-record height of 6’10.75, improving his previous school-record and provisional qualifying height of 6’09.50” set last weekend.
Junior Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) led a pack of six Stonehill runners in the 1500-meter run as he placed first overall (out of 55 competitors) in 3:55.79. Freshman Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John’s Prep) rounded out the top five in 4:01.76, while junior Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) took 13th in 4:05.47 and sophomore Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) was 15th in 4:06.60.
Freshman Luke Byrnes (Glen Head, N.Y./Chaminade) finished first among collegiate entries and second overall in the pole vault with a height of 13’05.00”. Classmate Kevin McCann (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) was fifth at 12’05.25”.
Freshman John Gelcius (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) placed third in the javelin with a throw of 176’00” and was 13th in the shot put at 39’03.75”.
Junior Daniel Fidler (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) led five Skyhawks in the two-mile run with a time of 9:28.95 to place sixth overall (out of 45 runners). Freshman Ethan Penney (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) was 15th in 9:43.72, while sophomore Corey Donahoe (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) was 21st in 9:58.93.
Junior Daniel Newton (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) placed sixth for the shot put with a throw of 43’09.25”. He was also eighth in the discus with a distance of 128’11”.
