MEDFORD, Mass. (February 7, 2010) - The Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team racked up several event victories at the Tufts University Stampede in the Gantcher Center on Saturday. The Skyhawks took the top two positions in both the high jump and pole vault, while also posting first place finishes in the 400-meter dash, 800-meters and 4000-meter distance medley relay events.

Freshmen Luke Byrnes (Glen Head, N.J./Chaminade) and Kevin McCann (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) took first and second, respectively in the pole vault, with both posting school-record heights of 13'3.5". Byrnes took first place in the event by clearing the school-record height on his second attempt, before McCann cleared on his third to take second. Both broke the previous record of 12'11.5" set by McCann at the Harvard Open on December 12.

Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) and senior Joseph D'Agostino (Canton, Mass./Canton) placed first and second, respectively, in the high jump for the second-straight week. Thomas recorded his third-straight high jump victory, posting a height of 6'11" on Saturday. D'Agostino finished second for the second-straight week with a leap of 6'5".

Sophomore Pak Lul (Portland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) led Stonehill on the track by posting a first place finish, out of 30 runners, in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.88. He was also part of Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay which took first place with a time of 10:12.01 - more than 24-seconds faster than second-place Wesleyan (10:36.36). Lul also ran a leg of Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay which took fourth in 3:34.82.

Joining Lul on the winning DMR team were juniors Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) and Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) along with freshman Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep).


Freshman Luke Byrnes won the pole vault, sharing the school-record with his winning vault.

Hanlon was also an individual winner for Stonehill, taking first in the 800-meter run out of 11 competitors with a time of 2:00.52. Freshman Ryan Coene (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro) also ran the event for the Skyhawks and placed seventh in 2:02.53.

Fullerton also placed fourth (out of 31 runners) in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:34.72.

Competing in the 4x400 relay with Lul were sophomore John Driscoll (Revere, Mass./Revere) and freshmen Michael Miela (Foothill Ranch, Calif./Trabuco Hills) and Daniel Padilla (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy).

Driscoll also placed 12th in the 200-meter dash (out of 36 competitors) in 24.01, while Miela finished 21st in 24.93. The two were also part of Stonehill's 4x200-meter relay team which placed fourth in 1:37.13, along with Padilla and sophomore Eric Blanche (Hollis, N.H./Hollis-Brookline).

Stonehill also placed fifth in the 4x800-meter relay in 8:29.69. Competing in the event for the Skyhawks were Coene and juniors Brian Benson (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker), Nicholas Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and Nathan Morse (Whitinsville, Mass./Holy Name).

Freshman Sean Hanlon was a part of the winning DMR team and also won the 800-meters.

Junior Daniel Newton (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) placed third in the shot put with a distance of 45'2", while finishing 11th in the weight throw with a distance of 37'08".

Junior Patrick Fanning (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) finished fifth in the shot put at 43'03", while placing sixth in the weight throw at 43'4".

Sophomore Corey Donahoe (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) placed seventh (out of 17 runners) in the mile run with a time of 4:37.97.

Sophomore Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) placed eighth (out of 38 runners) in the 3000-meter run in 9:02.08, followed closely by junior Daniel Fidler (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) in ninth with a time of 9:02.13. The Skyhawks placed five runners in the top 20 as freshman Ethan Penny (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) and Timothy Johnson (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston) placed 13th and 15th, respectively.

Freshman Todd Sather (Melville, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) took 13th (out of 31 competitors) in the 1000-meters in 2:37.08.

Stonehill is back in action on Friday when it competes in the Boston University Valentine's Classic at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
