Stonehill Opens Indoor Track Season with Pair of Record Performances

Thomas provisional qualifier in 55-meter hurdles in collegiate debut
McCann posts school-record in collegiate debut for pole vault

BOSTON, Mass. (December 5, 2009) - The Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team opened its 2009-10 season with a pair of fine individual performances at the 2009 Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University, at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center today.

Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) made his collegiate debut a successful one by provisionally qualifying for the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.69-seconds to win the finals. He also placed first in the prelims with a time of 7.70-seconds. Both times were faster than the previous school record of 7.82-seconds posted by Max Hoddwells at the New England Championships last February. Thomas also placed second in the high-jump with a height of 6-feet, 8-inches. American International freshman Noel James won the event with a height of 6-feet, 9.75-inches.

Freshman Kevin McCann (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) set a school-record in the pole vault with his vault of 12-feet, 6-inches to place 11th in that event. He broke the previous Stonehill record of 11'7.25" set by Dana Burbank at the IC4A's at Boston University in March 2007.

Freshman Kevin Dolan (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) placed sixth in the 1000-meter run in 2:37.33.

Freshman Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep) placed eighth (out of 69 competitors) in the mile with a time of 4:26.77, while junior Brian Benson (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) placed 13th in 4:28.53.

Sophomore Dan Kincade (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) placed 14th in the weight throw with a distance of 41-feet, 7.25-inches.

Sophomore John Driscoll (Revere, Mass./Revere) placed 16th (out of 109 competitors) in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.49-seconds.

Sophomore Pak Lul (Portland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) placed 17th (out of 75) in the 400-meter dash in 51.58.

Junior Daniel Fidler (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) placed 17th in the 5000-meter run in 15:33.33.

Freshman Daniel Padilla (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Raphael Academy) took 17th in the 500-meter dash in 1:11.32.

Sophomore Corey Donahoe (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) finished 18th in the 3000-meters in 9:13.09.

Junior Dan Newton (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) finished 18th in the shot put with a throw of 41-feet, 9.75-inches.

Freshman Ryan Coene (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro) placed 24th in 800-meters with a time of 2:07.19.

Stonehill is back in action next Saturday at the Harvard University Invitational held at the Gordon Indoor Track in Cambridge.
