Hanlon Named Men’s Track Freshman of the Week

Georgetown, Mass., native honored for first time in outdoor season

EASTON, Mass. (March 30, 2010) – Stonehill College distance runner Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John’s Prep) has been named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week for men’s outdoor track by the Conference office today.

Hanlon, who earns outdoor Freshman of the Week honors for the first time after also earning the award once during the indoor season, placed third in the 1500-meter run at Saturday’s Worcester City Championships. He posted a time of 4:03.40 to finish second among Stonehill runners in the event which was won by junior teammate Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) in 4:00.12. The Skyhawks dominated the event by placing all five of their runners in the top 14 in the event which had 33 competitors overall.

Hanlon has competed in all eight indoor events for Stonehill this winter, running the 800-meters, mile and 1000-meters. He placed first in the 800-meter run out of 11 competitors with a time of 2:00.52 at the Tufts Stampede to earn his first Freshman of the Week award on February 9. His best 800-meter time came with a 23rd-place finish (out of 172) at the BU Valentine’s Invitational on February 13 with a time of 1:54.90. Hanlon placed fourth in the 800 at the Northeast-10 Indoor Championships with a time of 1:56.98, while also running a leg on the Skyhawks’ 4000-meter distance medley relay team which finished as runners up at the NE-10 Championships to earn All-Conference honors. He took third (out of 61) at the Harvard Open with a time of 1:58.46. Hanlon also turned in a fourth-place finish (out of 31) in the 1000-meters in 2:31.54.

Stonehill is back in action on Saturday, when it competes at the Bryant University Invitational in Smithfield, R.I.
