BOSTON, Mass. (February 19, 2010) - The Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team, ranked 25th in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll and fourth in the East Region, placed fourth at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center on Thursday night.

Stonehill compiled 69 points on the night, with Southern Connecticut State University claiming its eighth team title with 143 points. American International College was second (139 points) and the University of Massachusetts Lowell third (88).

Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) led the way again for Stonehill and in the process was named Most Valuable Athlete for the Championship, while also taking home Men's Athlete of the Year honors for the Conference. Thomas captured the NE-10 championship in the 55-meter high hurdles with two dominating runs before placing second in the highly anticipated high jump championship which featured two of the top three high jumpers in all of Division II this season.

Thomas shattered both the NE-10 Championship and his own school-record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.51-seconds, good enough to automatically qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., next month. The time was faster than his qualifying run of 7.55-seconds, which originally broke the previous meet record of 7.57-seconds set by UMass Lowell's Hassan Wajd in 2002. He also broke his own school-record of 7.56-seconds set in last week's final at the BU Valentine's Invitational, marking the fifth time he has bettered the school mark in his first collegiate season.

Junior Daniel Newton broke his own school-record in ther shot put and placed third overall.

Thomas, who has already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the high jump, placed second with his height of 7'0.25". The event marked a showdown between two of the top three high jump performances in all of Division II this season, with Thomas entering the meet with a Division II-best 7'1" and American International freshman Noel James owning the third-highest jump in the country at 7'0.25" - both NCAA automatic qualifiers. However, James came out on top on this night, posting a Division II best jump of 7"1.25".

Stonehill senior Joseph D'Agostino (Canton, Mass./Canton) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the high jump when he cleared 6'9.75" to place fourth.

Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team were runners up at the Championships, finishing with a time of 10:36.80.
