Thomas wins high jump and hurdles, Fullerton wins 1500-meters

LOWELL, Mass. (May 18, 2010) – Provisional NCAA Championship qualifiers from the Stonehill College men’s outdoor track & field team competed at the New Balance Boston High Performance Twilight Invitational at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Saturday night.

Junior Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) improved his provisional NCAA Championship qualifying time with his winning performance of 3:49.07 in the 1500-meter run on Saturday night. He currently sits 17th on the NCAA declaration list for next week’s championships in Charlotte, N.C. On Saturday, he shaved .20 seconds off his previous school-record time of 3:49.27 set last weekend at the New England Championships.

Classmate Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) also ran the 1500-meters and posted a seventh-place finish out of 29 runners with his time of 3:54.60.

Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) used the event as a tune up for what should be a run at national championships in the 110-meter hurdles and high jump Memorial Day weekend in Charlotte. Thomas placed first out of three competitors in the 110-meter hurdles on Saturday with his time of 14.51-seconds. He is currently ranked eighth nationally with his school-record time of 14.32-seconds set at the Northeast-10 Championships two weeks ago.

Thomas also won the high jump event on Saturday, clearing 6’10.25”. He has already automatically qualified to compete in the high jump at the NCAA Championships in two weeks, with his school-record and winning leap of 7’0.5” to capture the New England Championship last weekend. He is currently tied for second nationally with that height.

Freshman Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John’s Prep) placed fifth out of 24 competitors in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:53.67 on Saturday.
