Hanlon places third in 800m, McCann breaks own school-record in pole vault

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (December 12, 2009) - The Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team closed out its first semester schedule while competing in the Harvard Open at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center today.

Freshman Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep) led the way for Stonehill which competed mainly in the middle-distance events with a third-place finish in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:58.46. Junior Brian Benson (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) placed sixth in that event with a time of 1:59.34, while freshman Kevin Dolan (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) took eighth in 2:00.50.

Freshman Kevin McCann (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) set a school-record in the pole vault for the second-straight week, surpassing his own mark of 12-feet, six-inches, set last weekend at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, with a vault of 3.95-meters (12'11.5") today to place 17th overall.

Other results for Stonehill today included:

Sophomore Pak Lul (Portland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) placed seventh in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:07.41.

Freshman Tim Johnson (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston) placed seventh in the mile run with a time of 4:28.39.

Junior Daniel Newton (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 12.99-meters (42'7.4"), while junior Mark White (Milton, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) placed 16th in that event with a distance of 12.47m (40'10.95").

Freshman Daniel Padilla (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) finished 17th in the 500m with a time of 1:11.02.

Sophomore John Driscoll (Revere, Mass./Revere) placed 17th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.29-seconds.

Stonehill is now off until Saturday, January 23, when it participates in the Wheaton College Invitational in Norton.
