BOSTON, Mass. (February 14, 2010) - The Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team had a good day at the Boston University Valentine's Invitational at the BU Track and Tennis Center on Saturday.

Junior Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) and Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) both provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., next month in the mile run. Pilz placed 18th out of 205 runners in the event with a time of 4:10.69. He was 13th among collegiate runners in the event and first among Division II competitors. Fullerton placed 29th with a time of 4:12.74, second to Pilz among DII runners.


Pak Lul

Sophomore Pak Lul (Portland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) broke the school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.29-seconds to finish 30th in a field of 190 for the event. He broke the previous 400-meter Stonehill record of 49.64 set by Derek Hebert at the New England Championships on February 24, 2007. Lul finished 13th among collegiate runners and fourth among Division II competitors.

Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) broke his own school record and improved his provisional NCAA Championship qualifying time in the 55-meter high hurdles by completing the final in 7.56-seconds to place third overall - just .06 behind winner Todd Wildman of Trinity (Texas) College. Thomas surpassed his own previous school mark of 7.66 set at the Reebok Boston Collegiate Invitational two weeks ago, marking the fourth time he has broke the mark this season. He reached the final with a time of 7.69-seconds in the preliminary round.

Other results for Stonehill included:

Freshman Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep) placed 23rd (out of 172 runners) in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.90 - good for 14th among collegiate runners. Junior Brian Benson (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) placed 77th in the event with a time of 1:58.77, while freshman Todd Sather (Melville, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) finished 110th in 2:00.75.

Freshmen Luke Byrnes (Glen Head, N.J./Chaminade) and Kevin McCann (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) both cleared heights of 12'9" in the pole vault. Byrnes reached the height on his first vault to finish 13th overall, while McCann cleared on his third attempt for 18th overall.

Sophomore Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) placed 56th (out of 191 runners) in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:37.51. Junior Daniel Fidler (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) finished 101st in 8:54.13.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team placed 32nd with a time of 3:26.15. Running the event for the Skyhawks were Lul, junior Nathan Morse (Whitinsville, Mass./Holy Name), sophomore John Driscoll (Revere, Mass./Revere) and freshman Michael Miela (Foothill Ranch, Calif./Trabuco Hills).

Stonehill is back in action on Thursday for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, co-hosted by Stonehill, Bentley University and the University of Massachusetts Lowell, at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, beginning at 4 p.m.
