Skyhawks Return to Action at URI Sorlein Track Invitational

Kingstown, R.I -  Senior Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) took the top spot in the Men’s 1000 Meter Run at the University of Rhode Island Sorlein Track Invitational held Saturday in Kingstown, Rhode Island.  The men’s team finished third with 66 team points, while the women finished sixth.

Gill’s 2:25.01 finish in the 1000 Meter Run beat out UConn’s Michael Rutt and Collin Walsh from Southern Connecticut State.  The first place finish was the Skyhawks’ only of the day.

Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) continued his dominance of the Men’s 55 Meter Dash.  Price, a junior, took fourth place at the Invitational with a 6.52 time.  Earlier this season Price registered a 6.44 mark in the event.  He set a Stonehill record at the 2007 Northeast-10 Championship (6.36) last February. Freshman Nana Ocran claimed first place for Southern Connecticut (6.37).

Price also registered a fifth place finish in the Men’s 200 Meter Dash with a 22.51 finish.

Dave Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) finished just six seconds behind Providence College’s Richie Yeates in the Men’s 1 Mile Run.  Metzger, a senior, finished fifth.  Classmate Richard Gerry (Bow, N.H.) took fourth place with an impressive 1:56.80 finish.

The trio of Josh Andrews (Chelmsford, Mass.), Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.), and freshman Daniel Piltz (Newington, Conn.) finished second, third, and fourth respectfully in the Men’s 3000 Meter Run.  As a team the men placed second behind Providence College in the 4x 800 Meter Relay (7:49.88).

Junior Tyler Guilmette (East Longmeadow, Mass.) ended the men’s day on a high note, earning high honors in the Men’s Long Jump.  Guilmette registered a 6.76m jump to claim the sixth spot.

For the women, sophomores Katrina Harkins (Derry, N.H.) and Megan Breault (Dayville, Conn.) contributed gutsy performances in the 200 Meter Dash.  However, freshman Angela Miller’s (Brockton, Mass.) 14th  place finish was the highest for the Skyhawks in the event.

In addition to her 21st place finish in the 200 Meter Dash, senior Ashley Lane (Needham, Mass.) claimed seventh place in the Women’s 400 Meter Dash (1:02.27).  In the Women’s 1 Mile Run Kelly O’Toole (Nashua, N.H.) and Jenn Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) finished fifth and sixth for the Skyhawks.

Meghan Rocha (Nashua, N.H.) earned another top 10 performance in the Women’s Weight Throw.  Rocha, a sophomore, registered a 10.58 measurement to end the women’s day.

Both the men and women will compete in the Reebok Boston Invitational next Friday at 4:30 p.m.
