Medford, Mass. – A new school shot put record from freshman Daniel Newton (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) set the tone for the Skyhawks at the Tufts Stampede held Saturday afternoon.  The red-hot Stonehill team had another impressive showing heading into the Northeast-10 Conference Championships next week.

First year thrower Daniel Newton registered a 43’7” throw to claim a new school mark for the Purple and White.  His efforts earned him sixth place in the event.

Stonehill ended the day with three first-place finishes at the meet.  The first came from senior Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass./Brockton), who registered a time of 1:53.64 in the Men’s 800 Meter Run.

The other top spot came in the Men’s 4x 800 Meter Run.  With a time of 7:55.58, a team comprised of David Metzger (Ellington, Conn./Ellington), Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H./Bow), Kevin Gill (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) and Keith Gill shared the top honor.

Kevin Gill, a freshman, took top honors in the 1000 Meter Run with a time of 2:28.65.  His time set a new school record for the fastest time by a freshman.  Kevin also automatically qualified for the New England's and IC4A's.

Metzger finished second for the Skyhawks in the 1 Mile Run with a time of 4:15.04.  Metzger’s second place spot was matched by Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow) in the 55 Meter Dash.  He finished with a time of 6.48.

The Skyhawks received second place finishes from jumpers Joe D’Agostino (Canton, Mass./Canton) and Tyler Guilmette (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Long Meadow).  D’Agostino’s 6’5” leap in the high jump was good enough for second place honors, while Guilmette registered a 21’10.25” in the long jump.

The men will travel to the Southern Connecticut next week to compete in the Northeast-10 Championships.  The meet is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23rd.
