Skyhawks Set Two School Records at Southern Conn. Invitational

New Haven, Conn. -Tyler Guilmette
(East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and sophomore Thomas Kilby (Fall River, Mass./Durfee) each set school records at the Southern Conn. State University Invitational held Saturday.  The Stonehill Men's Track & Field team also received high finishes from Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow), Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and Patrick Fanning (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) on their way to finishing seventh in team competition.

Guilmette, a junior, started the men's outdoor season off right, claiming a school record in the Long Jump.  Guilmette, who also competes in Indoor Track & Field, registered a 6.85m (22'5.75" ft) leap - shattering the previous record, also set by Guilmette, by two inches.  He claimed first place in the event, earning 10 team points.

Not to be outdone, Kilby also had a record breaking day for the Purple and White.  The sophomore threw the javelin 54.80m (179'9" ft).  His throw broke the previous record, also set by Kilby, of 177'5" ft.

Price had an equally impressive day for the Skyhawks.  He finished first in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 10.95, seconds ahead of Guilmette, who took seventh in the event at 11.37.  Price, a junior, also compete in the 200 Meter Run, registering a second place finish with a time of 22.36.

Jason Lynch (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) and Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) finished ninth and tenth in the 5000 Meter Run.  Lynch, a freshman, finished in 16:02.27.  Senior Ryan was not far behind, finishing in 16:02.73.

Fanning, a freshman, rounded out the field events for the men.  The freshman discus thrower took ninth for the Skyhawks, throwing 37.23m (122'2" ft).  

Both Stonehill College's Men's and Women's Track & Field teams will be hosting a home event next weekend.  The event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
