New Haven, Conn. - Seven Skyhawk men earned first place honors at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship held at Southern Connecticut State College on Saturday.  Together, the Stonehill squad accumulated 131 points - landng them second in team standings.  In addition to their individual accomplishments, two pairs of teams took home top honors in the Distance Medley and the 4x 800 Meter Run.  A number of strong finishes helped the Stonehill men to another successful weekend.

Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./ Sleepy Hollow) was the only Skyhawk runner to claim the top spot in short distance events.  His 22.58 finish in the 200 Meter Run beat out Bryant's Alex Engel (22.71) for first.  Price also finished second behind Southern Connecticut's Nana Ocran (6.37) in the 55 Meter Dash with a time of 6.41.

Price, a junior, then teamed up with classmates Tyler Guilmette (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow), Mark Porcaro (Medford, Mass./Medford) and senior Tom Woods (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) to take second place in the 4x 400 Meter Run.  The team finished in 3:34.39.

Sophomores Josh Andrews (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and Joe D'Agostino (Canton, Mass./Canton) both finished first for the Purple and White in their respective events.  Andrews' 15:38.01 time dominated the 5000 Meter Run, while D'Agostino's 6'04.00" leap in the High Jump was two inches higher than his nearest competitor.

Seniors Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and David Metzger (Ellington, Conn./Ellington) both claimed the top spot of their events in their last Northeast-10 Championship.  Ryan, who completed in the 3000 Meter Run in 8:38.06, finished nearly 10 seconds ahead of Southern Connecticut's Joe Poulsen (8:47.19).  Metzger's first place finish in the Mile Run came in 4:21.32.

Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) squeaked out a victory over Bentley's Dan Darcy.  Gill's 1:57.18 first-place finish came just before Darcy at 1:57.94.  Not to be outdone, brother Kevin Gill (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) also finished first in 1000 Meter Run with a time of 2:29.92.

Both Gill brothers joined teammates to win two more events for Stonehill College.  Keith, a senior, joined classmate Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H./Bow), freshman Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) and sophomore Matt Rigby (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) to claim gold in the 4x 800 Meter Run.  The team finished in 7:59.15.

Kevin, a freshman, teamed up with classmates Nathan Morse (Whitinsville, Mass./Holy Name) and Matthew Klingman (Chelmsford, Mass/Chelmsford), as well as junior Matthew Meagher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) to finish first in the Distance Medley in 10:32.20.

After the event, the Conference handed out Indoor Track and Field postseason superlatives.  After a record-breaking senior season, Keith Gill was awarded the 2007-2008 Northeast-10 Conference Athlete of the Year.  An equally impressive rookie campaign from Kevin Gill resulted in him being recognized as the 2007-2008 Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of Year.  Skyhawks coach Karen Boen received 2007-2008 Co-Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year honors for her outstanding effort this season, as well.
