Skyhawks Third At NE-10 Championships

Smithfield, R.I. - Behind school-record setting performances from Russell Miranda and Thomas Kilby, Stonehill finished third at this year's Northeast-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Bryant University. 

Southern Connecticut (229) won the team title while UMass-Lowell (144) was second and the Skyawks (128) followed.

Miranda's 160-04 hammer throw was good for third at the event, which was won by Southern Connecticut's John Brinley who's throw of 180-01 was good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championship.

Kilby won the javelin with his throw of 186-10, which was nearly 13 feet further than Southern Connecticut's John Walsh.

Tyler Guilmette turned in a third place finish in the long jump, leaping 21-08.25 feet.

One of Stonehill's surprise performances came from Matt Meagher who finished second in the 10000 with a time 33:04.76.

The Skyhawks got a second place finish from Dan Pilz and a fourth place showing from Jason Lynch in the 3000 meter steeplechase in an event won by Southern connecticut's Jospeh Poulsen.

David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.), Kevin Gill (Brockton, Mass.) and Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) all finished in the top six in the 1500 meters.

Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) turned in a second place finish in the 800 metersto lead a contingent of four Skyhawk runners to finish in the top ten. Ben Rummery (5), Brian Benson (6) and Matt Rigby (8) all were sandwiched around Southern Connecticut runners.

Tom Woods, an All-American during the indoor season was second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.26, while Nick Pace (7) also turned in a top ten performance.

Torrey Price posted third place finishes in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while Josh Andrews earned a second place spot in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:00.29.

The Stonehill relay teams also fared well, with the 4x800 team earning the even title and the 4x400 squad collecting third place honors.

The Skyhawks return to action on Saturday when they take part in the New England Championships at the University of New Hampshire next weekend.
