Four Event Winners Highlight Skyhawks At MIT Invite

Cambridge, Mass. - Four different Stonehill student-athletes scored individual wins at the non-team scoring MIT Invitational in Cambridge on Saturday.

Tom Woods (400 Hurdles), Daniel Pilz (3000 Steeplechase), Tyler Guilmette (High Jump), and Russell Miranda (Hammer Throw), all took home titles for the Skyhawks.

Miranda collected his win with a throw of 46.90m, just ahead of Tufts' Joe Brown (46.79m).

Guilmette, meanwhile, outdistanced his closest competitor by a foot and a half, leaping 22 feet, 10 inches.

Woods, running in the third heat, blazed to a victory with a time of 54:31 in the 400 meter hurdles, while Pilz won the steeplechase by nearly three seconds.

In addition to the winners, other Skyhawks performed well on the day. Joe D'Agostino posted a second place finish in the high jump, and Torrey Price had two second place showings - one in the 100 meter dash and the other in the 200 meters.

Guilmette teamed with Mark Pocaro, Woods and Brian Reilly to produce a second place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.

Tom Kilby also had a second place afternoon, coming in behind Brandon Jean of Fitchburg (Mass.) State in the javelin.

Stonehill had four runners  - Matt Rigby (2 nd), Ben Rummery (3 rd), Josh Andrews (5 th) and Brian Benson (6 th) finish in the top 10 in the men's 800.

Ana Kern placed third in the women's long jump, while the foursome of Angela Miller, Megan Breault, Amanda Carnevale and Ashley Lane combined for a fourth place finish in the 4x400.
