Price, Williams Qualify For New England Championships In 100 Meters As Men's Outdoor Track And Field Squad Begins 2007 Campaign With Solid Effort At Northeastern Spring Open

DEDHAM, Mass.-- Both Stonehill outdoor track & field teams opened their respective 2007 seasons with solid performances at the non-scoring Northeastern Spring Open Saturday afternoon on the Solomon Track.

Sophomore Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.), who just two weeks ago earned All-America honors in the indoor 60 meters at the NCAA national championships, won the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.92, while senior Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) finished second with a time of 11.14 as both individuals qualified for the all-New England Championships. Senior Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) was second in the 400 meters with a time of 49.98, while junior Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) was third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:01.4. Sophomore Tyler Guilmette (East Longmeadow, Mass.) set a school record in the long jump for the Skyhawks with a mark of 22 feet, four inches in the event.

On the women's side, senior Maura Williams (Ellington, Conn.) won the 400 intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:06.03 to qualify for the all-New England Championships, while fellow senior Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) provisionally qualified for the 2007 NCAA National Championships in the 10,000 meters by finishing third in the event with a time of 37:47.

Both Stonehill squads return to action next Saturday morning when the Skyhawks head to New Haven, Conn. to compete at the Southern Connecticut Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m.
