Gerry, Williams Post First Place Performances In Respective Events As Men's Indoor Track And Field Finishes Second Among 22 Entrants At Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass.-- The Stonehill men's indoor track and field team placed second among 22 entrants at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as three individuals on both the Skyhawk men's and women's squads qualified for the upcoming all-New England Championships in their respective events.

Junior Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) won the 200 meters on the men's side for Stonehill with a time of 22.6 seconds, while junior Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) qualified for the New England Championships in the 55 meter high hurdles with a second place time of 7.93 seconds while also placing fourth in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 2 inches. Sophomore Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) won the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.48 and qualified for the New England Championships in the event, while sophomore David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and junior Brandon Beloin (Danielson, Conn.) were second and third, respectively, in the mile and 55 meter high hurdles with times of 4:21.54 and 8.03 seconds, respectively.

Freshman Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) finished third in the 55 meters (6.64 seconds) and sixth in the 200 meters (23.59) on the day for Stonehill, and he was the lead runner in the winning 4 X 200 relay for the Skyhawk men, which was also comprised of Williams, senior Paul Viggiano (Trumbull, Conn.) and junior Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.). Tufts was victorious in the team competition on the day, with Stonehill finishing second and UMass Lowell placing third.

On the women's side, junior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) qualified for the all-New England Championships in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.13 for Stonehill, while junior Colleen Burbank (Dedham, Mass.) placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 4 inches for the Skyhawks.

Both Stonehill squads return to action next weekend as the Skyhawks head to Boston to compete in the two-day Boston University Valentine Classic, with Friday's action beginning at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday's action beginning at 10:00 a.m.
