Metzger, Gerry And Williams Earn All-New England Honors For Men's Indoor Track And Field At 2006 New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass.-- Four individuals earned all-New England honors in their respective events for both Stonehill indoor track and field teams over the weekend at the 2006 New England Championships hosted by Boston University.

Sophomores David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) recorded third place finishes in the men's 5,000 meters and mile, respectively, for the Skyhawks, as Metzger posted a time of 14:47.17 as the top Division II entrant in the event while Gerry posted a time of 4:12.8. Junior Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) also earned all-New England accolades for Stonehill in the 200 meters, posting a time of 22.80 seconds that was good for sixth place. Williams, senior Paul Viggiano (Trumbull, Conn.), junior Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) and sophomore Thomas Woods (Medfield, Mass.) also set a school record in the men's 4 X 400 relay with a time of 3:22.8. Hebert set a new Skyhawk school record as well in the 400 meters, posting a time of 49.64 in the event.

On the women's side, senior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.) earned all-New England honors once again for Stonehill in the 5,000 meters, posting a time of 17:22 that was good for sixth place.

Both Skyhawk squads return to action next weekend in competing at the IC4A Championships at Boston University. Stonehill College and the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center will serve as co-hosts for the 2006 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 10th and 11th.
