BOSTON, Mass.-- Freshman Richard Gerry (Bow, N.H.) set a school record in the 800 meters for the Stonehill men’s indoor track and field team on Saturday afternoon at the 2005 IC4A Championships held at Boston University.

Gerry set the new Chieftain mark with a time of 1:53.83 in the event, breaking the previous record of 1:53.99 set by former Stonehill standout Cullen Hagan in March 2001. The record came as the Chieftain men’s indoor squad closed out its 2004-2005 schedule.

The Stonehill women’s squad will have two competitors at next weekend’s NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships that are set for Friday and Saturday (March 11 & 12) at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Both senior Dianna Chivakos (South Hamilton, Mass.) and junior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.) will compete for the national championship in the 5,000 meters, as Chivakos is seeded 10th after posting a time of 17:10.05 during the season and Smith is seeded 16th with a time of 17:24.38. Chivakos will compete at the indoor nationals for the second straight year.
