Ken LeGrice served 12 seasons as head coach of the Stonehill softball program, leading the Skyhawks until his passing in May, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

In addition to serving 34 years for the Brockton Police Department, including recent years as Lieutenant, LeGrice was a member of the Stonehill softball coaching staff for 17 years, including the last 12 as its head coach. He guided the Skyhawks to a program-record 197 wins and six Northeast-10 Conference Tournament appearances. Stonehill won 20-plus games on six occasions, including 25 in 2013 and a 21-win mark in 2015 when the Skyhawks reached the semifinal round of the NE10 Tournament.

The Stonehill softball team was presented with the athletic department's Community Service Award in 2019 for its work with Strikeout Cancer. LeGrice coached 21 All-NE10 selections, including five first team picks, and saw five freshmen earn NE10 All-Rookie Team accolades over his tenure as head coach.

Prior to joining the coaching staff at Stonehill, LeGrice was an assistant coach at Medfield High School and was a member of the coaching staff at Brockton High School, helping the Boxers to the 2000 Massachusetts Division I State Championship.

In 2019, LeGrice led the team back to double-digit wins for a 15-24 overall record and an 11-16 NE10 mark. Juniors Michelle Theilgard '21 and Genna Hartman '21 were voted to the NE10 All-Conference second team. The squad also received the 2019 Stonehill Community Service Award for their dedication to raising money for the NFCA Strikeout Cancer event. For the two years that the team has raised money, the program has collected over $7,000 for cancer research.

The 2018 season saw a 8-31 overall record and a 7-22 NE10 mark. LeGrice coached freshmen Michelle Theilgard '21 and Hannah Ricker '21 to the NE10 All-Rookie team, while Theilgard also earned NE10 All-Conference third team honors.

LeGrice wrapped up the 2017 season with a 11-30 overall mark and a 9-15 record in NE10 play. The Skyhawks recorded five shutouts in the season and Michelle Carbone '17 was named to the NE10 All-Conference second team for the second-straight season. She will also leave her mark as her name will be etched in the school records in 12 categories.

LeGrice led Stonehill to its fifth-consecutive 20-win season in 2016, as the Skyhawks finished 23-17 overall and 19-8 in NE10 play. The Skyhawks earned the No. 2 seed in the NE10 Tournament and faced No. 3 seeded Adelphi University, where the Panthers began the game with a 6-0 lead, and the Skyhawks were only able to get five runs in two innings falling in the second-round matchup. Alison Sumski '16 and Megan Staudle '16 were named to the NE10 All-Conference first team, while Michelle Carbone '17 and Sarah Ropiak '16 were named to the second team. Senior Megan Ruonavaara '16 earned Academic All-District I first team honors.

In 2015, LeGrice guided Stonehill to another 20 win season, as the Skyhawks finished 21-15 overall and 13-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) play. The Skyhawks earned the #2 seed in the NE-10 Tournament and recieved a bye into the second round. From there they upended #3 seeded Southern Connecticut State University, 1-0, before falling in the conference semifinals to the #1 seed Adelphi University, 2-0. At the conclusion of the regular-season, Sarah Ropiak was named to the All-NE-10 Third Team.

LeGrice led Stonehill to its third consecutive 20-win campaign in 2014, as the Skyhawks went 20-25 overall and 14-15 in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) play. The fifth-year coach earned his 100th career victory on April 9th, when Stonehill outlasted Assumption College 10-9 in an 11-inning contest in Worcester. That victory was part of a stretch in which the Skyhawks went 13-3 from April 2-14, improving their NE-10 record to 13-5 in the process. At the conclusion of the season, four of LeGrice's student-athletes earned All-Conference recognition, highlighted by sophomore Megan Ruonavaara, who was named to the All-NE-10 first team.

In 2013, LeGrice and the Skyhawks reached the second round of the NE-10 Tournament and matched Stonehill's program record for wins in a season with 25. Stonehill defeated Saint Anselm College, 4-0, in the first round of the NE-10 Tournament before falling to the University of New Haven in round two. Freshman Megan Staudle earned All-NE-10 first team honors, while Senior Nicole Eisenmann was selected to both the All-NE-10 second team and NFCA All-East Region second team.

In 2012, LeGrice led the Skyhawks to an NE-10 Tournament appearance as the number 8 seed and a program record 17 conference wins on the season. LeGrice guided three members of his team - Nicole Eisenmann, Samantha Krantz and Lindsay McKillop - to NE-10 All-Conference Second Team selections. Stonehill finished the season 24-15 overall, one win shy of tying the program mark for most wins in a season.

The Skyhawks started the year with an 8-2 record overall, their best start since 2001. Stonehill also ranked fourth overall in batting average (.305), fifth in on-base percentage (.360) and fifth in earned run average (2.62).

LeGrice was named head coach prior to the 2010 season, after spending five years as a member of the coaching staff. In his first season at the helm, he led the Skyhawks to a 20-19-1 overall record, including a 15-13 mark in the NE-10 to finish seventh in the standings and earn just the third postseason appearance in program history - and first since 2008.

Senior Katy Abarr was recognized for her efforts on and off the field by collecting Capital One Academic All-District I honors. Eisenmann earned All-Northeast-10 First Team and All-Rookie team honors as well.

LeGrice served as an assistant coach from 2005-08 before being promoted to associate head coach prior to the start of the 2009 season. In his eight years with the program, the Skyhawks have won 145 games, and in 2008 qualified for the NE-10 postseason tournament for the first time since the 1996 season.

LeGrice, a 1982 graduate of Northeastern University with a degree in criminal justice, is a 34-year veteran of the Brockton Police Department, being promoted to leiutenant. He and his family reside in Brockton.
