HOOKSETT, New Hampshire (April 22, 2019) – The Stonehill College softball team fell to No. 13 Southern New Hampshire University, 4-1, in game three Monday afternoon at SNHU Softball Field.

With the loss, Stonehill is now 14-21 overall and 10-13 in NE10 play, while Southern N.H. is now to 34-9 overall and 18-4 in Conference play.

For the Skyhawks, Julia Hartman was the only one to tally multiple hits swinging 2-for-4 at the plate, while five other players recorded one hit. Caroline Casey and Maille Bennett went 1-for-2 with one walk. Sophie Perez was the only Skyhawk to score as she went 1-for-4 at the plate.

The Penmen saw Erin Critch, Erin Garczynski, and Erin Tyrrell register two hits each, as Critch, Garczynski, Maddy Barone, and Tyrell recorded RBI.

Hartman singled in the top of the first inning, but the Penmen quickly retired the side stranding the junior on base. Southern New Hampshire saw their own first hit in the bottom of the frame, as they stranded two on base with Stonehill stopping the first run on a fielder's choice bunt.

Tyrrell led off the bottom of the third with a triple to right field and with two outs the Penmen's Garczynsk singled to score Tyrrell for the first lead of the game, 1-0. Stonehill responded with their own run in the top of the fourth as Perez reached first on a single and Carly Rennie moved her over with a ground out. Casey then singled to right field sending Perez to third and she ran home on an error by the right fielder to tie the game, 1-1.

Out of Southern N.H.'s nine hits in the game, six of them came in the bottom of sixth to score three runs for their second advantage of the game, 4-1. With two outs and runners on the corners, Barone singled to left field for the first run of the frame and with the bases loaded Tyrrell singled to the pitcher scoring the second run. Critch then saw her second hit of the day to bring in the third run on a RBI single to left field for a three-run lead, 4-1.

With Stonehill's last at bat in the top of the seventh, Hartman singled with two outs and the Penmen retired the side holding on for the win.

Stonehill is scheduled to face Merrimack College tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23 in North Andover, Massachusetts on Martone-Mejail Field. On Friday, April 26 Stonehill will host Franklin Pierce University for a doubleheader for their Strikeout Cancer Game. If you would like to donate click here.
