KISSIMMEE, Florida (March 7, 2019) – The Stonehill College softball team fell twice in its third day of play in Florida, dropping a 6-1 contest against Trevecca Nazarene University and 4-0 to Wilmington (Del.) University on Thursday.
Game 1: Stonehill 1 – Trevecca Nazarene 6
The Trojans opened up the game with a 1-0 lead after MaKray Odom bunted to get on base and stole second and third base before reaching home on a throwing error. Trevecca Nazarene was retired with a fly out and a pop out, before the Trojans defense kept the Skyhawks off the base in the bottom of the frame.
Kazi Walker kept the Trojans off the bases in the second inning, as the Skyhawks saw its first hit from Sophie Perez in the bottom of the second. In the top of the third, Trevecca Nazarene opened up the game with three runs to extend its lead to four off of three hits, 4-0.
Both teams pressured each other in the fifth inning, as the Trojans left two on base, as Walker got the last two outs with pop ups. Stonehill saw Perez and Taylor Whaley walk to get runners on first and second, but they stranded two on base with a ground out to end the inning.
Stonehill was able to squeeze a run through in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out and runners on first and second. Julia Hartman singled through the infield driving home Gianna Azzato to cut the deficit to three, 4-1, before a strikeout to end the inning.
With two outs, the Trojans saw Mary Collins and Tana Whited launch homers in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to five, 6-1. The Skyhawks looked to fight back, but Trevecca Nazarene fended off the offensive attack leaving three on base for the win.

Game 2: Stonehill 0 – Wilmington 4
Wilmington outhit Stonehill 10-4, as the Wildcats handed the Skyhawks its second shutout loss of the season. Wilmington saw its first hit of the game in the bottom of the first, as Stonehill saw its first hit of the game in the top of the second inning.
Lauren Lopez, who swung 2-for-3, connected for a two-run single with one out to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Stonehill fell three-straight for the second time in the game in the top of the fifth, and Wilmington picked up another two runs in the bottom of the frame inning for a 4-0 lead.
Stonehill saw no hits and left one on base in the final two innings of the game, as Wilmington left two on base in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Skyhawks got out of the jam with three-straight outs.
Stonehill (2-4) will face West Chester (Pa.) University tomorrow, Friday, March 8 for a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m.
