CLERMONT, FLORIDA. (March 7, 2018) – The Stonehill College softball team fell to Wayne State (Nebraska) College, 3-2, and St. Cloud State University, 8-0, in five innings Wednesday in Clermont, Florida.

Game 1: Stonehill 2 – Wayne State (Nebraska) College 3

Freshman Michelle Theilgard (North Branford, Connecticut/Mercy) went 2-for-4, while freshman Hannah Ricker (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough), freshman Gianna Azzato (East Meadow, New York/East Meadow), junior Carly Rennie (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford), freshman Genna Hartman (East Grandy, Connecticut/East Granby), and junior Sophie Perez (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) each tallied one hit. On the mound, Hartman pitched 7.0 innings, gave up six hits and struck out four in her second loss of the season.

Neither team was able to get a run across, but Stonehill connected for two hits and left three on base in the bottom of the first inning. Wayne State squeeze in a run in the top of the second with one out as Abbie Hix hit a single to right field to score Alyx Hagen from third for a 1-0 lead.

Stonehill saw its first lead of the season as Azzato singled to center field and Rennie launched a double to right field bringing Azzato home for a tied ball game, 1-1. With one out, Rennie advanced to third on a ground out and was quickly driven in by Perez's single to left field for a 2-1 lead.

Wayne State bounced back in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs off of three hits, putting the Wildcats back on top. Hagen doubled to center field in the lead off spot and Sarah Hunter pinch ran for her advancing to third on a ground ball. Hix also doubled to center, driving in Hunter knotting the game at two, 2-2. Hartman struck out Annie Grammer for the second out of the inning, but the Wildcats tallied its third double of the inning by Taylor Menard and Hix became the game-winning run, 3-2. Hartman shut down the Wildcats, as Katelyn Wobken flew out to right field, leaving two on base.

Stonehill only recorded one hit in the bottom of the seventh, but the Skyhawks were unable to rally together to drive in any runs and leaving two on base.

Game 2: Stonehill 0 – St. Cloud State University 8 (5 innings)

Ricker and senior Olivia Peterson (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) were the only Skyhawks to record hits in the loss.

Saint Cloud State saw Morgan Emmans notch three RBI while batting 2-for-3 with two runs scored including two doubles, while Kylie Thomas was the only other Husky to register more than one RBI, as she totaled two batting 1-for-3 registering on double.

The Huskies jumped on board early with a 5-0 lead, stringing together six hits for five runs and leaving only one on base. Three doubles and three singles was the game changer in the first inning for the Skyhawk's defense. After shutting down the Huskies in back-to-back innings in the second and the third, St. Cloud continued to find the holes in the field, as five hits drove in three runs, 8-0, before Stonehill ended the inning and making the Huskies strand three on base.

Stonehill (0-4) battles Northern State University and New York Institute of Technology tomorrow, Thursday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively in Clermont, Florida.
