Squeri belts her fourth homerun of the season

Game 1: Stonehill 1 – Bentley 0
For the Skyhawks, Cassandra Squeri (New Providence, New Jersey/New Providence) hit her fourth homerun of the season, while batting 1-for-1. Jennifer Mayette (Scotia, New York/Scotia-Glenville) threw 7.0 innings, gave up four hits and struck out four on the mound for the win.
The Falcons got on base early as they left a runner on in the top of the first and second inning, as the Skyhawks were unable to get a runner on in the bottom of the first frame. However, Squeri led off the bottom of the second with a homerun to center field after the third pitch for a1-0 lead.
Stonehill was able to get another runner on base, as Julia Hartman (Salisbury, Massachusetts/Triton Regional) started off the bottom of the third with a leadoff walk, but the Falcons' Hannah King retired the side with a strike out and two fly out fouls.
Bentley put pressure on Stonehill in the top of the fourth, as Julie Slavin singled to second base and with two outs Juliana Romeo drove the ball up the middle to get runners on first and second.
Neither team was able to tally a hit in the remaining three innings, until Bentley saw Romeo double to right field, but Mayette got out of the jam with two ground outs.
Stonehill's Kazi Walker (Quaker Hill, Connecticut/Waterford) hit her first-collegiate hit and homerun in the bottom of the seventh with no outs. On the mound, Mayette pitched her second complete game and second-straight win, giving up six hits and striking out three batters.
Bentley got off to a good start, as Kelsey Kennedy singled and Slavin followed with a double to center field, getting runners in scoring position, but Mayette retired the side with a fly out to center field in the top of the first.

Stonehill also left two runners on in the first frame as Taylor Lester (East Northport, New York/St. Anothony's) reached on an error by the shortstop and Caroline Casey (East Moriches, New York/Center Moriches) got to first on a fielder's choice. With one out, Erin Brayden (Saco, Maine/Thorton Academy) got on base by a drop third strike to get runners on first and third. Squeri grounded out to shortstop by Brayden advanced to second, putting both runners in scoring position. The Falcon's Kasey Smith wrapped up the inning with a ground out for the third out.
The Falcons left runners on in the top of the second and the top of the third, as Mayette got out of jams twice.
The Skyhawks tallied its first two hits in the bottom of the frame as Olivia Peterson (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) singled to the pitcher and Casey singled to left field, but Lester advanced to third and tried crossing home but was stopped by a throw by the leftfielder to catcher for the second out.
Bentley left another runner on in the top of the fifth and sixth, as Stonehill left two on in the bottom of the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, Sophie Perez (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) singled to left field for a lead off hit. She advanced to second as Hartman pushed a bunt through the five-six hole reaching first with no outs. Walker pinch hit for Peterson and with her third swing, she launched her first-collegiate walk-off homerun giving the Skyhawks its fifth shutout of the season.
Stonehill (10-22, 8-7 NE10) travels to Manchester, New Hampshire to face Southern New Hampshire University in its third game of the three-game series on Friday, April 21 with a first pitch slated for 5:00 p.m., where the teams are tied 1-1.
