Skyhawks battle through 10 innings in the second game

Game 1: Stonehill 1 – Molloy 2
For Stonehill, Lianna Jordan (Staten Island, New York/St. Joseph By the Sea) batted 1-for-3 with her third-career homerun, as Erin Brayden (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and Michelle Carbone (Deer Park, New York/St. Anthony's) recorded the other two hits for the Skyhawks. Cassandra Squeri (New Providence, New Jersey/New Providence) gave up six hits in 6.1 innings pitched with one walk and struck out one.
Molloy tallied the first hit of the game in the bottom of the first, as Olivia Banulski singled through the left side and only advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ashley Fedor. Squeri recorded the next two outs on a grounder and a fly out.
Squeri got on second base as the leadoff batter in the top of the second inning from an error in the outfield. Molloy shut the Skyhawks down with a grounder, a strikeout and a pop up.
Jordan kicked off the top of the fourth with a leadoff homerun down the left field line for her third of her career and Carbone followed with a single to left field and stole second to get in scoring position. Molloy was able to get the third out to prevent the Skyhawks from not scoring.
The Lions responded in the bottom of the fourth with a run of its own as Fedor singled through the left side and stole second to get in scoring position for Mikaela Tribby. Tribby connected on a 3-1 count and singled to center field but was thrown out at second scoring Fedor before the out, tying the game at one.
The Lions came up in the bottom of the seventh and Tribby started off with a leadoff walk. Alexandra Russo doubled to right center and advanced to third on the throw, as Bernadette Mullane scored from first for the go-ahead run.
Game 2: Stonehill 3 – Molloy 4 (9 innings)
Brayden went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, one RBI, while Carly Rennie (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) and Olivia Peterson (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) tallied the other two RBI.
Stonehill got on the board early in the game as Jordan doubled to right center with one out and Brayden tripled down the right field line scoring the senior from second, for a 1-0 advantage.
Molloy left two runners on base in the top of the second as DeOliveira was hit by a pitch and Russo singled to center field.
The Lions tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth with two outs and off of two hits. Banulski walked as the leadoff batter and Botte followed with another walk. Dalton singled through the left side and Botte and Banulski advanced on the hit. Stonehill got the second out as the force play at home, but it was followed by DeOliveira singling through the left side and Botte scoring from third before the last out was tagged at the plate for a 1-1 game.
Stonehill left the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning as two hits and a walk got the Skyhawks on base, but the Lions defense was prevalent.
In the top of the sixth, Molloy strung together two hits and two walks to get another run across for a one-run lead, 2-1.
Brayden singled to left field and advanced on a fielding error by the left fielder to get in scoring position for the Skyhawks in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Rennie singled up the middle and advanced to second on the through tallying a RBI as Brayden crossed the plate tying the game once again sending the game into extra innings.
Both teams were able to score a run in their part of the inning as Rambo scored off Botte's single up the middle for the Lions and Brayden slid into home as Peterson sent a hard liner to the pitcher who lost control, tying the game up at three.
As the Lions put another runner on second, in the top of the ninth, DeOliveira flied out to center field for a sacrifice fly scoring Harris for a one-run game, 4-3.
Stonehill left one runner on base, as Molloy recorded a pop up, a fly out and a strike out to pick up another victory.
The Skyhawks return to Massachusetts and will face Northeast-10 Conference foe Merrimack College in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 22 at home on Fr. Gartland Field with a first pitch at 3:00 p.m.
