Stonehill's All-Time CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees

EASTON, Mass. (May 9, 2016) – Stonehill College senior Megan Ruonavaara (Rocky Hill, Connecticut/Rocky Hill) has earned Academic All-District I first team honors for softball as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members in Division II from the East Region. With her first team selection, Ruonavaara is now eligible for Academic All-America honors to be released later this month.

Ruonavaara, who has earned a 3.96 cumulative grade point average as an accounting major, collects the award for the second time in her career after earning the distinction at the conclusion of her sophomore campaign. Earlier this spring, Ruonavaara received her third Saint Thomas Aquinas Medal for having the highest cumulative grade point average on the team and collected the Athletic Director's Award at the recent Student-Athlete Awards ceremony for her overall contributions to the athletic department. She has also been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's and the Athletic Director's honor roll every semester at Stonehill.

Throughout her decorated career, Ruonavaara has been named to the Academic All-District team twice, Daktronics All-East Region second team and the NE-10 All-Conference first team. She is a career .286 hitter and has amassed 20 homeruns, 76 runs batted in and scored 66 runs for the Skyhawks. On the mound, Ruonavaara's name is etched in the record books as she is the most winningest pitcher in Stonehill history, winning 34 games. She has also logged the most innings in program history, pitching a total of 433 innings and is second on the all-time list in strikeouts with 231.

Stonehill (23-17, 19-8 NE-10) finished its 2016 campaign in second place in the NE-10 Northeast Division, and were knocked out of the conference tournament in the second round by Adelphi University.
