Northeast-10 Softball All-Conference Awards Announcement

EASTON, Mass. (April 26, 2016) – Four members of the Stonehill College softball team have earned Northeast-10 All-Conference honors as selected by the league's 15 head coaches, it was announced today.

Senior second baseman Alison Sumski (Amherst, New Hampshire/Souhegan) and catcher Megan Staudle (New Windsor, New York/Cornwall Central) collected first team All-Northeast-10 honors, while junior outfielder Michelle Carbone (Deer Park, New York/St. Anthony's) and senior pitcher Sarah Ropiak (Acton, Massachusetts/Acton-Boxborough) were named to the All-Conference second team.

Sumski, an All-NE-10 second team performer as a sophomore in 2014, caps her career with an All-Conference first team nod. The Amherst, New Hampshire native has provided power in the middle of Stonehill's lineup this spring, posting a .331/.359/.653 slash line with a team-leading ten doubles, nine home runs and 38 runs batted in to go with 20 runs scored. Her nine homeruns rank second in the NE-10, while her 38 RBI rank third.

Sumski was chosen as NE-10 Player of the Week twice this season, including two out of the last three weeks. She went on a tear in the final month of the season, hitting at a .463 clip with seven of her homeruns and 26 RBI coming in April. In the classroom, Sumski has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester at Stonehill.

For Staudle, this is the third time she has been honored by the NE-10 at the conclusion of the regular season, and the second time she's been named to the first team. The New Windsor, New York native was named to the All-Conference first team as well as the All-Rookie team after her freshman campaign. She was also honored with a second team All-Conference selection after her sophomore year.

Staudle finished the year with a career-high, and team-high .369 batting average to go with six doubles, 21 runs batted in and 23 runs scored. Like Sumski, Stuadle did the majority of her damage in the second half of the season, hitting .431 with 15 RBI and 16 runs in the month of April. In the classroom, Staudle has been named to both the NE-10 Commissioner's and Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Ropiak earns her second consecutive All-NE-10 selection as she was named to the third team last season. Ropiak has appeared in 23 games, making 20 starts in the circle for Stonehill during the regular season. She went 12-8 and compiled a 2.87 earned run average, while recording 82 strikeouts in a team-high 122 innings pitched. Ropiak limited opposing offenses to a .239 batting average and 61 runs (50 earned) on 118 hits while issuing 38 walks. She went the distance in ten of her starts, recording three shutouts. In the classroom, Ropiak has been named to both the NE-10 Commissioner's and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester at Stonehill.

Rounding out Stonehill's 2016 NE-10 All-Conference honorees is Carbone, who collects All-NE-10 honors for the second time in her career. Carbone was named to both the third team and All-Rookie team following her successful freshman campaign. She earns second team honors this year after producing a career year at the plate and on the mound for the Skyhawks. The Deer Park, New York native hit .366 to go with five homeruns, 27 RBI and 27 runs scored which are all a career high. In the circle, Carbone when 5-2 with a 1.41 ERA (second in the NE-10) in 11 appearances, including five starts. She recorded 20 strikeouts in 44.2 innings of work, and held opponents to a .186 batting average. Stonehill (23-16, 19-8 NE-10), which finished the regular season in second place in the NE-10 Northeast Division and secured a first round bye for the NE-10 Tournament, will play a second round contest on Friday against the winner of Wednesday's first round matchup between Southwest No. 3 University of New Haven and SW #2 Adelphi University on the campus of top-seeded Pace University at 2:30 p.m.
