Deer Park, N.Y. native led Stonehill with .522 batting average and three doubles last week
EASTON, Mass. (April 22, 2014) – Stonehill College freshman Michelle Carbone (Deer Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for softball, it was announced yesterday by the league office.
Carbone led the Skyhawks at the plate last week with a .522 batting average (12-for-23), to go with three doubles, a home run, and six RBI. She also posted an on-base percentage of .500 with a .783 slugging percentage, while chipping in with three steals and a sacrifice fly in a 2-4 week Stonehill.
Carbone and the Skyhawks started their week off hot, as the freshman went 5-for-8 with a home run and three RBI in a doubleheader sweep at Saint Michael's College on Monday afternoon. With Stonehill leading 1-0 in the eighth inning of game two, Carbone delivered a two-run homer that helped seal the 3-0 win.
She followed up that effort by going 4-for-9 with three doubles, four runs, and one RBI in a pair of losses to Franklin Pierce on Thursday, before wrapping up her week with three hits and two RBI in two more losses to the Ravens on Saturday afternoon.

Carbone earns this award for the second time in three weeks, as she was recognized on April 8th after a week in which she hit .364 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and six RBI while also going 2-0 in the circle with a 2.50 earned run average and one complete game.
Overall this season, Carbone ranks second on the team with a .351 batting average (39-for-111), four home runs, and 23 RBI, and she leads the Skyhawks with six doubles. She has also scored 16 runs and stole five bases in six attempts. In the circle, Carbone is 6-5 in 18 appearances (eight starts) with four complete games and a 4.23 ERA. She has allowed 46 runs (34 earned) on 85 hits in 72.1 innings of work with a team-high 44 strikeouts and 24 walks.
A 2013 graduate of St. Anthony's High School in Melville, N.Y., Carbone played four years of varsity softball for coach Mike Massa. She was named All-Long Island second team as a freshman, sophomore, and junior, before being selected to the first team as a senior.
Stonehill (18-20, 13-10 NE-10), which has lost six consecutive contests after winning five in a row, will look to get back on track today with a doubleheader at home against Merrimack College. Stonehill will then head to Southern Connecticut State University for a makeup doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, before returning to Gartland Field for a pair of twinbills on Friday and Saturday against Saint Anselm College.
